The 2017 IBSF Junior Skeleton World Championships took place at the Sigulda bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in Sigulda, Latvia, from 24 to 28 January 2017.

Sigulda is a town in the Vidzeme region of Latvia, 53 kilometres from the capital city Riga.
Konstantin Aladashvili is a Russian bobsledder and skeleton racer who has competed since 1999. He finished 22nd in the men's skeleton event at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Aladashvili also competed at the FIBT World Championships, finishing 23rd in the men's skeleton event at Calgary, in 2005.
Tomass Dukurs is a Latvian skeleton racer who has competed since 1998. Competing in three Winter Olympics, he finished fourth in the men's skeleton event at Vancouver in 2010 and Sochi in 2014.
Silke Kraushaar-Pielach is a German luger who competed from 1995 to 2008. In June 2008, she was named sports manager for the luge section of Bob- und Schlittenverband für Deutschland.
Markus Schmidt is an Austrian luger who competed between 1987 and 1997. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he earned a bronze medal in the men's singles event at Albertville in 1992.
Louise Corcoran is a New Zealand skeleton racer who has competed since 2000. She finished 12th in the women's skeleton event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Her best World Cup result was 11th in Sigulda in 2005.
The Sigulda Bobsleigh and Luge Track is located in Sigulda, Latvia, built in 1986. Currently, the track manager is Dainis Dukurs, former bobsleigh brakeman and the father of skeleton racers Martins and Tomass Dukurs.
The 2015 FIL World Luge Championships took place under the auspices of the International Luge Federation at the Sigulda bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in Sigulda, Latvia from 14–15 February 2015.
Kim Meylemans is a German-born Belgian skeleton racer who competes on the Skeleton World Cup. After starting out in football, she began competing in skeleton in 2009 and was selected to the German national team in 2013. In the 2014–15 season, she moved to the Belgium national team. She is coached by Fernando Oliva and Martin Rettl, and rides a Schneider sled. She became the first ever Belgian skeleton European champion on February 2, 2024, at the Skeleton World Cup race in Sigulda, Latvia and the first ever Belgian skeleton world championships medal winner on February 23, 2024, winning a silver at the Skeleton World Championships in Winterberg, Germany.
Yuliya Artyomovna Kanakina is a Russian skeleton racer who competes on the Skeleton World Cup circuit. She began international competition in 2011, and was promoted to the World Cup squad in the 2014–15 season. Before starting skeleton, Kanakina was a ballet dancer. She was the IBSF Junior World Champion in women's skeleton for 2017 in Sigulda, and finished 26th in the senior IBSF World Championships later that year. In 2018, Kanakina took silver at the Junior World Championships, 0.81 seconds behind Anna Fernstädt.
Kimberley Bos is a Dutch skeleton racer who competes on the Skeleton World Cup circuit. She started competing internationally in 2009, originally in bobsleigh, and was selected to the Dutch national team in 2010; she switched to skeleton for the 2013–14 European Cup season. Her personal coach is Urta Rozenstruik, and she rides a Bromley sled. Away from the track, Bos is a physiotherapy student, occasionally serving as "unofficial physio" to the other athletes. Bos was the only woman named to represent the Netherlands in skeleton at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, where she finished eighth. Bos returned for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, where she won the bronze medal and became the first Dutch skeleton athlete to win a medal.
Vladyslav Mykhailovych Heraskevych is a Ukrainian skeleton racer who has competed since 2014. He is the first-ever Ukrainian skeleton racer.
Mica McNeill is a British bobsledder. She won a silver medal at the 2012 Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, and at the 2021–22 Bobsleigh World Cup event in Sigulda, Latvia. She competed at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Lisa-Marie Buckwitz is a German bobsledder. She won a gold medal in the two-woman event at the 2018 Winter Olympics, and also competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The season started on 3 December 2018 in Sigulda, Latvia, and finished on 23 February 2019 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The World Cup was organised by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation, who also run World Cups and Championships in bobsleigh. The title sponsor of the World Cup was again BMW.
