The 2017 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament is the postseason conference tournament for the Sun Belt Conference. The tournament will be held at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana from March 8 to March 12, 2017. The tournament winner will receive the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
All 12 conference teams will compete in the conference tournament. Teams were seeded by record within the conference, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. [1] The top four teams received a bye to the quarterfinals.

The College World Series (CWS), officially the NCAA Men's College World Series (MCWS), is a baseball tournament held each June in Omaha, Nebraska. The MCWS is the culmination of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Baseball Championship tournament—featuring 64 teams in the first round—which determines the NCAA Division I college baseball champion. The eight participating teams are split into two, four-team, double-elimination brackets, with the winners of each bracket playing in a best-of-three championship series.
The South Alabama Jaguars represent the University of South Alabama in NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics. USA competes in the Sun Belt Conference; it is the conference's only remaining charter member from its inception. USA's athletics teams are nicknamed the Jaguars. Popular sports are baseball and men's basketball. USA sponsors 8 men's sports teams and 9 women's sports teams. The board of trustees voted to start a football program that began play in the fall of 2009.
The VCU Rams men's basketball team is the intercollegiate men's basketball team that represents Virginia Commonwealth University. The Rams joined the Atlantic 10 Conference in the 2012–13 season after previously competing in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). In 2017, VCU was ranked the 40th most valuable men's basketball program in the country by The Wall Street Journal. With a valuation of $56.9 million, VCU ranked second in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and second in the A-10 Conference. The team is coached by Ryan Odom.
The Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament has been played every year since the formation of the Sun Belt Conference prior to the 1976–77 American collegiate academic year. The winner of the tournament is guaranteed an automatic berth into the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.
The 1978–79 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began in November 1978, progressed through the regular season and conference tournaments, and concluded with the 1979 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament championship game on March 26, 1979, at the Special Events Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Michigan State Spartans won their first NCAA national championship with a 75–64 victory over the Indiana State Sycamores.
The Southeastern Fire are the athletic teams that represents Southeastern University, located in Lakeland, Florida, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Sun Conference since the 2009–10 academic year. The Fire previously competed as a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), primarily competing as an independent in the South Region of both the Division II and Division I levels. The Fire previously competed as an NAIA Independent within the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) during the 2008–09 school year.

The 2001 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 2–6 at the Mitchell Center at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.
The 2019 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 64 teams to determine the national champion for the 2018–19 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The 38th annual edition of the tournament began on March 22, and concluded with the championship game on April 7 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, with the University of South Florida serving as host. The tournament field was announced on March 18.
The 2019 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 68 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's basketball national champion for the 2018–19 season. The 81st annual edition of the tournament began on March 19, 2019, and concluded with the championship game on April 8, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Virginia Cavaliers, with Virginia winning 85–77 in overtime.

The 2019 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for Sun Belt Conference during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Tournament first-round games were played at the campus of the higher seeded team on March 12. The remainder of the tournament was held from March 14–17, 2019, in New Orleans, Louisiana, at Lakefront Arena. Georgia State defeated UT Arlington 73–64 in the championship game to win the tournament, and received the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA tournament. It was the third tournament championship for Georgia State, and their second consecutive.
The 2020 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for Sun Belt Conference during the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Tournament first round, second round, and quarterfinal games were played at the campus sites of the higher seeded team between March 7–11. The semifinals and championship game would have been held from March 14–15, 2020, in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Smoothie King Center. The regular season champion would have received the Sun Belt's automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA tournament.

The 2003 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 7–11 at E. A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The 2021 Sun Belt Conference women's basketball tournament was the postseason women's basketball tournament for the Sun Belt Conference that took place March 5–8, 2021, at the Pensacola Bay Center for majority of the games and a few First round and Quarterfinal matchups at Hartsell Arena on the campus of Pensacola State College, both in Pensacola, Florida. All games were broadcast on ESPN+, and the championship game was televised on ESPNU.
The 2022 ASUN men's basketball tournament was the conference postseason tournament for the ASUN Conference. The tournament was the 43rd year the league has conducted a postseason tournament. The tournament was held March 1, 3, 5, and 8, 2022 at campus sites of the higher seeds. The winner, Bellarmine, did not receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament due to not being eligible because of a transition from Division II. Instead the regular season conference champion, Jacksonville State, was awarded the conference's automatic bid.
The 2023 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for Sun Belt Conference during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. All tournament games were played at Pensacola Bay Center between February 28–March 6. The winner, Louisiana, received the Sun Belt's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA tournament.
The 2024 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Sun Belt Conference during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. All tournament games were played at Pensacola Bay Center between March 5–11, 2024. The winner, James Madison, received the Sun Belt's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA tournament.
The 2024 Atlantic Sun men's basketball tournament was the conference postseason tournament for the Atlantic Sun Conference. The tournament was the 45th year the league has conducted a postseason tournament. The tournament was held March 4–10 at campus sites of the higher seeds. The winner, Stetson, received the conference's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament. It was their first ever ASUN championship and NCAA tournament appearance for the Hatters.
