The Voice Portugal is a Portuguese reality singing competition and local version of The Voice, based on the original The Voice of Holland. The series employs a panel of four coaches who critique the artists' performances, and guide their teams of selected artists through the remainder of the season. They also compete to ensure that their act wins the competition, thus making them the winning coach. The original coaching panel consisted of Rui Reininho, Paulo Gonzo, Mia Rose, and the duo Os Anjos. The upcoming coaching panel, for season 12, will feature Sara Correia, Fernando Daniel, Sónia Tavares, and Nininho Vaz Maia. In August 2016, the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) announced that they would be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest after a one-year absence following their withdrawal in 2016 due to poor results in previous contests and the broadcaster's insufficient promotion of music-related content. RTP organised the national final Festival da Canção 2017 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. After two semi-finals and a final which took place in February and March 2017, "Amar pelos dois" performed by Salvador Sobral emerged as the winner after achieving the highest score following the combination of votes from seven regional juries and a public televote.
Salvador Vilar Braamcamp Sobral is a Portuguese singer, who won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 for Portugal with the song "Amar pelos dois", written and composed by his sister, Luísa Sobral. In doing so, he gave Portugal its first ever win in the contest since its debut in 1964, ending the longest winless run by a country in Eurovision history. Sobral and his entry hold the Eurovision record for the highest-scoring winner, having earned a total of 758 points under the current voting system, after winning both the jury vote and televote.

She came to prominence in 2003 after finishing third in the first season of Ídolos, the Portuguese version of Idols television series. After going on hiatus to attend the Berklee College of Music, she released her debut album, The Cherry on My Cake, in 2011. She later composed "Amar pelos dois", which was performed by her brother Salvador Sobral and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 for Portugal.

The Voice Kids is the junior version of The Voice Portugal, broadcast on RTP1, with competitors between the ages of seven and fifteen. The first season premiered in 2014, and the show did not come back for a second season until 2021. In April 2019, RTP1 announced a reboot of the show, which was set to premiere in 2020, but ended up being postponed due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
