2018 Women's Softball World Championship Group Stage

The Group Stage was the first stage of the 2018 Women's Softball World Championship. Qualified teams were split into 2 groups of 8 teams each following a serpentine system based on the Women's Softball WBSC World Rankings. [1] Teams played a round-robin within their group, the top 4 teams in each group advanced to the playoff round and the bottom 4 sent to the placement round. [2] It was the last time the groups would compete at the same time and location as each other or the final stages. [3]

The Japan national baseball team, also known as Samurai Japan (侍ジャパン), is the national team representing Japan in international baseball competitions. It won the World Baseball Classic in 2006, 2009, and 2023 as well as WBSC Premier12 in 2019. The team is currently ranked 1st in the world by the World Baseball Softball Confederation and is a baseball powerhouse.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation Europe, known as WBSC Europe, was established on February 10, 2018, during a Congress of the Confederation of European Baseball and the European Softball Federation in Val d’Europe, France. the establishment of WBSC Europe followed the historic merger of the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) and the European Softball Federation (ESF). The Women's Baseball World Cup is an international tournament in which national women's baseball teams from around the world compete. Through its 2012 edition, it was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation; following the 2013 merger of the IBAF with the International Softball Federation, subsequent tournaments are sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). In the eight times it has been held, the tournament has been won twice by the United States and six consecutive times by Japan in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

The 2018 Women's Softball World Championship was an international softball competition held in Chiba, Japan, from 2 August to 12 August. It was the 16th edition of the tournament, and the third edition to be sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). Previous editions were sanctioned by the International Softball Federation, which governed the sport until its 2013 merger with the International Baseball Federation to create the WBSC. As the winners, the United States earned the right to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics. It was the last world title awarded under the championship format before the WBSC implemented the new world cup 4 year cycle.

Baseball at the 2019 Pan American Games was held from July 27 to August 4. The venue for the competition was the baseball stadium located at the Villa María del Triunfo cluster. The tournament was part of the 2019 edition of the Pan American Games, hosted by Lima, Peru.

The 2019 WBSC Premier12 was an international baseball championship featuring the 12 highest-ranked national teams in the world, held by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). It was the second WBSC Premier12 event. The championship was held from November 2 to 17, 2019, in Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.

Six national teams qualified to compete in baseball at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. As host, Japan automatically qualified. Israel also qualified, by winning the Africa/Europe Qualifying Event in September 2019.

Six teams qualified for the Olympic softball tournament, including Japan, which, as host nation, qualified automatically. The United States team won the 2018 Women's Softball World Championship to qualify for the Olympics. The remaining four spots were allocated through three qualification tournaments: one spot for a Europe/Africa tournament, one spot for an Asia/Oceania tournament, and two spots for an Americas tournament.

The softball competition at the 2022 World Games took place from July 9–13, 2022, in Birmingham in United States, at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Originally scheduled to take place in July 2021, the Games were rescheduled for July 2022 as a result of the 2020 Summer Olympics postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Softball returned to the official programme of the World Games after nine years of absence.

The 2020 U-23 Baseball World Cup, officially III U-23 Baseball World Cup, is the third edition of the U-23 Baseball World Cup tournament, fourth since the tournament's inception in 2014 as the 21U Baseball World Cup. Originally scheduled to take place in 2020, the event was postponed to 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament is held from September 23 to October 2, in Ciudad Obregón and Hermosillo, Mexico, with 12 teams participating.

The Baseball5 World Cup is a mixed-gender Baseball5 (B5) world championship that occurs every two years, with the first edition held in 2022 in Mexico and contested by 12 countries. It is governed by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

The 2022 WBSC Men's Softball World Championship was the 17th Men's Softball World Championship, an international softball tournament taking place in Auckland, New Zealand from 26 November to 4 December 2022. Originally scheduled for February 2021, the tournament was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New Zealand last hosted the tournament in 2013. It will be the 17th edition of the tournament.

The 2024 Women's Softball World Cup will be the 18th Women's Softball World Cup, an international softball tournament taking place in Balbriggan, Ireland; Buttrio and Castions di Strada, Italy and Valencia, Spain. The group stage will take place from 11–26 July 2023, held as three separate groups across three nations. The finals will take place in Buttrio and Castions di Strada, Italy from 15–21 July 2024. This is the first WBSC event to be held in two stages. It will be the first time Ireland, Italy and Spain have hosted a major softball tournament. It also the first time more than one nation has hosted the tournament. The United States are the defending champions.

The 2024 Women's Baseball World Cup will be the 9th Women's Baseball World Cup, an international baseball tournament taking place in Thunder Bay, Canada, and one other to be determined location. The group stage will take place from 8-13 August 2023 as two separate tournaments in two separate locations. The finals will take place in Thunder Bay, Canada in 2024. This is the first Women's Baseball World Cup event to be held in two stages. It will be the third time Canada has hosted the tournament. It is also the first time more than one nation has hosted the tournament. Japan are the defending champions.

Group A of the 2024 Women's Softball World Cup will take place from 11 to 15 July 2023 in Balbriggan, Republic of Ireland. The group consists of host nation Ireland, Chinese Taipei, United States, Great Britain, Australia and Botswana. The United States and Australia advanced to the Finals to be held in 2024, with the United States going undefeated winning all four of their games.

Group B of the 2024 Women's Softball World Cup will take place from 18 to 22 July 2023 in Valencia, Spain. The group consists of host nation Spain, China, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Netherlands and South Africa.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Asian Baseball Championship</span> International baseball tournament

The 30th Asian Baseball Championship was an international professional baseball competition for Asian men's national teams. It was held in Taiwan. It began on 3 December 2023 and ended on 10 December 2023. Japan won the championship, its 20th title.
