Group E of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the group stage of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup for the Czech Republic, Turkey, United States and Japan. Each team played each other once, for a total of three games per team, with all games played at Shanghai Oriental Sports Center, Shanghai. [1] After all of the games were played, the top two teams with the best records qualified for the Second round and the bottom two teams played in the Classification Round. [2]

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup is the 18th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams. The tournament is hosted in China and was rescheduled from 2018 to 2019, becoming the first since 1967 that will not occur in the same year as the FIFA World Cup. The group stage is expanded from 24 to 32 teams.

The Czech national basketball team represents the Czech Republic in international basketball tournaments, and are controlled by the Czech Basketball Federation. They are the successor to the Czechoslovakia national team after the Czech Republic split from Czechoslovakia, due to the dissolution of the unified state in 1993. Their best accomplishment to date as an independent was finishing in seventh place at the EuroBasket 2015. They will make their first FIBA World Cup appearance at the 2019 edition in China.

Hosted by Spain, it was the last tournament to be held on the then-current four-year cycle. The next FIBA World Cup will be held five years later, in 2019, to reset the four-year-cycle on a different year than the FIFA World Cup.

Turkey vs. Czech Republic

This was the first game between Turkey and the Czech Republic in the World Cup. The Turks won in EuroBasket 2007, which was the last competitive game between the two teams.

The 2007 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 2007, was the 35th FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship held by FIBA Europe, which also served as Europe qualifier for the 2008 Summer Olympics, giving a berth to the champion and runner-up teams. It was held in Spain between 3 September and 16 September 2007. Sixteen national teams entered the event under the auspices of FIBA Europe, the sport's regional governing body. The cities of Alicante, Granada, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, and Seville hosted the tournament. Russia won its first FIBA EuroBasket title since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, by defeating hosts Spain, with a 60–59 score in the final. Russia's Andrei Kirilenko was voted the tournament's MVP.

United States vs. Japan

This was the first game between the United States and Japan in the World Cup. The Americans won in the 1972 Olympics, which was the last competitive game between the two teams.

Basketball contests at the 1972 Summer Olympics was the eighth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle in Munich, Germany from August 27 to September 9. The Soviet Union controversially won the gold medal game against the United States. This was the first time that the USA did not win a gold medal since the sport's introduction into the Olympics at the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics. The bronze was won by Cuba, the only Olympic medal they have won in basketball.

The final round of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup is the knockout stage of the competition. The top four teams from the preliminary round groups shall qualify in the single-elimination tournament. The losers in the semifinals will play for the bronze medal. Teams from Groups A and B shall play at the Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid in Madrid, while those from Groups C and D shall play at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. The third place game and the final shall be held at the Madrid arena.

The 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, the 18th edition of FIBA's premier international tournament for women's national basketball teams, was held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain from 22 to 30 September 2018. This was the first edition to use the name of FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup. After the last edition in 2014, FIBA changed the name of the competition from the FIBA World Championship for Women, in order to align its name with that of the corresponding men's competition.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification, for the FIBA Europe region, began in the summer of 2017 and concluded in February 2019. Contrary to previous years, no teams were automatically placed into the FIBA World Cup, so all FIBA Europe nations had to participate in qualifications.

The United States men's national basketball team is competing in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. After rule changes by FIBA in 2015, the U.S. no longer automatically qualified for the World Cup despite winning the Olympics in 2016. Changes in timing also resulted in the qualifying rounds overlapping with the National Basketball Association's (NBA) season. Consequently, USA Basketball decided to deploy squads of players mostly from the NBA G League, the NBA's development league. Coached by Jeff Van Gundy, they qualified the U.S. for the World Cup, where the Americans switched to a team of NBA players coached by Gregg Popovich. After winning the past two World Cups in 2010 and 2014, Team USA is seeking to become the first country to capture three straight gold medals. Normally played every four years, the tournament was moved from its expected 2018 playing to avoid conflicting with soccer's World Cup schedule.

Group K of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the second stage of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup for four teams, top two teams from Group E and two from Group F. The results of round one were carried over. The teams played against the teams from the group they have not faced before, for a total of two games per team, with all games played at Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre, Shenzhen. After all of the games were played, the top two teams advance´d to Quarter-finals, the third placed team was classified 9 to 12 and the fourth placed team 13 to 16.

2019 Italy FIBA Basketball World Cup team

The 2019 Italy FIBA Basketball World Cup team represents Italy at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China. Italy qualified for the World Cup by taking the 2nd place in the European Second Round Group J. The team has been coached by Romeo Sacchetti.
