County Laois was divided into 3 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV).

Boundary review

Following a recommendation of the 2018 LEA boundary review committee, the electoral division of Clash mas moved from Portlaoise LEA to Borris-in-Ossory–Mountmellick LEA, to take account of population changes revealed by the 2016 census. [1] [2]

        An election to all 19 seats on Laois County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of the 2014 Irish local elections, a reduction from 21 seats at the 2009 election. County Laois was divided into three local electoral areas to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). In addition, the town councils of Mountmellick and Portlaoise were both abolished.

        The Laois Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1907.

        The 2016 Laois Senior Football Championship is the 126th edition of the Laois GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Laois, Ireland. The tournament consists of 16 teams with the winner going on to represent Laois in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship has a back-door format for the first two rounds before proceeding to a knock-out format. Generally, any team to lose two matches will be knocked out of the championship.
