Mr. Olympia is the title awarded to the winner of the professional men's bodybuilding contest at Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend—an international bodybuilding competition that is held annually and is sanctioned by the IFBB Professional League. Joe Weider created the contest to enable the Mr. Universe winners to continue competing and to earn money. The first Mr. Olympia was held on September 18, 1965, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York City, with Larry Scott winning his first of two straight titles.
Female bodybuilding is the female component of competitive bodybuilding. It began in the late 1970s, when women began to take part in bodybuilding competitions.
The IFBB Professional League Ms. Olympia is professional bodybuilding's most prestigious competition and the title of the winner of the competition in female bodybuilding. The male professional bodybuilding equivalent of the Ms. Olympia is the Mr. Olympia. The natural professional female bodybuilding equivalent to the Ms. Olympia is the INBA/PNBA Natural Olympia. It was first held in 1980. It is held as part of the Joe Weider's Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend from 2000 to 2014 and 2020 to the present.

The documentary film Generation Iron was filmed while following several Olympia contestants as they prepared for this competition.

The 2020 Mr. Olympia contest was a weekend-long IFBB professional bodybuilding competition that was held on December 15 to 20, 2020, in Orlando, Florida. Initially meant to be held at the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas, the tournament was later moved to Orlando, due to local restrictions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, making it the first Olympia to be held outside Las Vegas in two decades.
The 2022 Mr. Olympia contest was an IFBB professional bodybuilding competition and expo held from December 15–18, 2022, at the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas, in Paradise, Nevada. Concurrently, the Olympia fitness expo was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. It was the 58th Mr. Olympia competition held. The 2023 Mr. Olympia contest was an IFBB professional bodybuilding competition and expo held from November 2-5, 2023, at the Orange County Convention Center, in Orlando, Florida. It was the 59th Mr. Olympia competition held. Other events at the exhibition included the 2023 212 Olympia Showdown, as well as finals in Men's Classic, Men's Physique, 2023 Ms. Olympia, Fitness, 2023 Figure, 2023 Bikini Olympia, among other contests.
