Taijijian is a straight two-edged sword used in the training of the Chinese martial art Taijiquan. The straight sword, sometimes with a tassel and sometimes not, is used for upper body conditioning and martial training in traditional Taijiquan schools. The different family schools have various warmups, forms and fencing drills for training with the jian.

The World Wushu Championships (WWC) is an international sports championship hosted by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) for the sports of wushu taolu and sanda (sanshou). It has been held biennially since 1991 and is the pinnacle event of the IWUF. The World Wushu Championships also coincides with the IWUF Congress as well as with various committee meetings. This competition additionally serves as the qualification event for the Taolu World Cup and the Sanda World Cup.

Wushu was contested by both men and women at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar from December 11 to December 14, 2006. It was competed in the disciplines of Taijiquan, Taijijian, Changquan, Daoshu, Jianshu, Gunshu, Qiangshu, Nanquan, Nangun, Nandao, and Sanshou. All events were held at Aspire Hall 3.

Wushu was both a men's and women's event at the 2009 Southeast Asian Games in Vientianne, Laos held from December 13 to December 17, 2009.

Lindswell, also known as Lindswell Kwok is a former Indonesian taijiquan athlete. She is one of the most renowned wushu taolu athletes of all time. In 2013, she was named Best Athlete by the Indonesian Olympic Committee, and received the Dharma Sports Medal, the highest sports award in Indonesia. For her achievements, Indonesian media dubbed her as the "queen of wushu".

The women's taijiquan two events combined competition at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea was held from 10 to 12 October at the Dongseo University Minseok Sports Center.

The women's Taijiquan/Taijijian all-round competition at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China was held on 15 November at the Nansha Gymnasium.

The women's Taijiquan / Taijijian all-round competition at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea was held on 22 September at the Ganghwa Dolmens Gymnasium.

Myanmar competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Myanmar has participated in all the editions of the Asian Games except in the 1986 Games in Seoul. Volleyball player Zaw Lwin Tun, had been honored to be the flag-bearer for the country at the opening ceremony.

The women's taijiquan and taijijian competition at the 2018 Asian Games was held from 19 to 20 August at the Jakarta International Expo.

Agatha Chrystenzen F. Wong is a Filipino wushu athlete who has represented the Philippines at the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games, and the World Wushu Championships.

The women's taijiquan / taijijian all-around competition at the 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament was held from August 22 to 23 at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium.

Chai Fong Ying is a former wushu taolu and taijiquan athlete from Malaysia. She was a three-time world champion and a double gold medalist at the Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Games. She also won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament.
