2020 Assam mob lynchings refer to the mob lynching incidents occurred in the Northeast Indian state of Assam in 2020.
Muslim neighbours threaten to kill Jahnobi Gogoi in Nazira district for watching Ramayana serial during Ramzan. In a shocking incident, two locals, Samiruddin Ali and Mobidul Rahman attacked a poor Hindu woman in Assam’s Nazira district, for ‘watching TV in her house during the month of Ramzan’. The Muslim neighbours prohibited the woman from watching TV, citing Ramzan. After this, they allegedly gathered in large numbers with sharp weapons and started assaulting the woman. They attempted to murder her by strangulating her. [1]
On 23 May 2020, a vegetable vendor Sanatan Deka was beaten to death by five Muslims at Monahkuchi village, Kamrup district, Assam. [2] Police was able to arrest 2 prime accused. [3]
On 23 May 2020, Paragjyoti Neog, a resident of Upper Assam's Chabua, was killed by a muslim mob. [4]
On 12 June 2020, a man named Rituparna Pegu was lynched was stabbed to death in broad daylight in Guwahati. A muslim family was arrested. [5] The incident caused protests in Guwahati. [6]

Assam separatist movements refers to a series of multiple insurgent and separatist movements that are or have been operating the in Northeast Indian state of Assam. The conflict started in the 1970s following tension between the native indigenous Assamese people and the Indian government over alleged neglect, political, social, cultural, economic issues and increased levels of illegal immigration from Bangladesh. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of 12,000 United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) militants and 18,000 others.
On 9 July 2012, in Guwahati city, the capital city of Assam, an Indian state, a teenage girl was allegedly molested and manhandled by a crowd of approximately 30 men outside a bar, many of whom were subsequently arrested based on video footage of the event. A local TV journalist from News Live was accused of instigating the mob and was arrested on 20 July 2012. Investigations are ongoing.

Saikia was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly in 2011 from Nazira constituency. He was reelected in both 2016 and 2021. He is the son of Hiteswar Saikia and Hemoprova Saikia.
The 2017 Alwar mob lynching was the attack and murder of Pehlu Khan, a dairy farmer from Nuh district of Haryana, allegedly by a group of 200 cow vigilantes affiliated with right-wing Hindutva groups in Behror in Alwar, Rajasthan, India on 1 April, 2017. Six others who were with Pehlu Khan were also beaten by the cow vigilantes.

On 17 June 2019, 24-year-old Tabrez Ansari was attacked by a lynch mob in Jharkhand, India. Ansari, a Muslim, was tied to a tree, brutally beaten and forced to chant Hindu religious slogans. He died four days later. The incident came to light after a video of the lynching went viral. The attackers accused him of bike theft. India's Prime Minister commented on this lynching in the Parliament of India.

Again, he becomes the first screenwriter from Assam who signed a Bollywood film. He signed the film on 21 October 2019.
Pranab Kumar Gogoi was an Indian lawyer and politician from Assam belonging to Indian National Congress. He was elected four times as a legislator of the Assam Legislative Assembly. He also served as the speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly and minister of the Government of Assam.
On 16 April 2020, a vigilante group lynched two Hindu Sadhus and their driver in Gadchinchale Village, Palghar District, Maharashtra, India. The incident was fuelled by WhatsApp rumours of thieves operating in the area during the countrywide coronavirus lockdown. The vigilante group of villagers had mistaken the three passengers as thieves and killed them. Policemen who intervened were also attacked; four policemen and a senior police officer were injured.

The Assam Cabinet headed by former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal approved the proposal to make Bajali a full-fledged district on 10 August 2020. 2013 Jhankar Saikia Mob Lynching happened in Diphu town, Karbi Anglong district, Assam, in India on 25 June 2013 when Diphu College student Jhankar Saikia and his father, Haren Saikia, refused to pay an auto-rickshaw fare of Rs. 30, when the regular fare was Rs. 20, and were attacked by a mob as a result.
