The 2020 LINAFOOT was the 4th season of the LINAFOOT, the top Chadian league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2015.

Unlike the 1st LINAFOOT edition (in 2015) organised as a full national championship and won by Gazelle FC, this edition was organized under the play-off formula. [1]

Delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the season started on 27 September 2020 and concluded on 8 October 2020.

Gazelle won their fourth Chadian title.


Events

In zone 1, Mirim Mongo was the representative; Renaissance FC Abéché, as a champion, was zone 2 representative. The zone 3 was represented by its champion As Santos Moussoro. In zone 4, Espoir FC Bongor and AS Mairie Binder were the two representatives. Zone 5 also had two representatives, those were Or Noir FC from Doba and Djarabé FC from Moundou. AS Mine Faya was the winner, and the representative of zone 6.

On September 2, 2020 RFC Abéché obtained its ticket for the final phase of the National Football League in N'Djamena. Placed in zone 2 with the RFC Goz Beida and the Lions Biltine, Renaissance football club of Abéché snatched its qualification by occupying the head of the standings with 4 points. The club secured the qualification by playing 0–0 with RFC Goz Beida, after the victory by forfeit against the Lions Biltine due to lack of licenses from the latter. Lions Biltine won against RFC Goz Beida by 4–1. Thus, Lions Biltine and RFC Goz Beida were eliminated with respectively 3 and 1 points. [2]

Started on August 26 as announced, the zonal championship in zone 5 ended on August 30, at the Municipal Stadium of Moundou, capital of the province of Logone Occidental. After two matches played by each of these three teams representing Mandoul, Logone Oriental and Logone Occidental, it was Or Noir FC Doba and Djarabé FC Moundou who obtained their qualifying tickets with 4 and 3 points respectively, in front of Ared FC Koumra who finished last with 1 point.

On September 26, 2020, the Linafoot proceeded to the drawing of lots for the 12 teams representing 7 zones qualified for the final phase of the national championship.

The playoff started on 27 September 2020 and concluded on 8 October 2020. The twelve teams were divided into two groups of six teams. [3] [4] [5] The matches were played at three stadiums: Stade d'Académie de Farcha, Stade Omnisports Idriss Mahamat Ouya and Stade de Paris-Congo. [6] All matches were being played at 03:30 p.m. local time.

Group stage

The 12 teams were divided into two groups of six teams. The top team of each group qualified for the final. The group stage matches started on 27 September 2020. [7] Matches were being played at 3:30 p.m. local time. Considering the decision of the Homologation, Litigation and Disciplinary Committee which withdrew all points from the Foullah Édifice FC club regarding the Bakhit Djibrine case, Gazelle FC was placed 1st in the pool and qualified for the final. The final was played between Gazelle and Renaissance FC on October 8, 2020 at the Idriss Mahamat Ouya stadium. After 1–1 in a 90 minutes of the game, penalty shootout was being played, which Gazelle won 8–7, and became a national champion.

Controversies

Case Bakhit

Homologation, Litigation and Discipline Commission suspended Foullah Edifice player Bakhit Djibrine due to double license, resulting in Foullah Edifice losing all its matches by forfeit. [9] The player already had a license signed in France in July. Despite this, he signed a second license at the same time in Chad with Foullah and played this championship. As the player cannot have two licenses at the same time, Foullah sees all its points withdrawn from the matches where Bakhit has played, and he played every game. [10]

Transport in Chad

Transport infrastructure within Chad is generally poor, especially in the north and east of the country. River transport is limited to the south-west corner. As of 2011 Chad had no railways though two lines are planned - from the capital to the Sudanese and Cameroonian borders during the wet season, especially in the southern half of the country. Chad Premier League is a Chadian league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Chadian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Contested by 12 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Division 2.

The Chad Cup is the top knockout tournament of the Chad football. The winner competes in the CAF Confederation Cup the following season.

Cinema of Chad Filmmaking in Chad

The Cinema of Chad is small though growing. The first film made in the country appears to have been 1958 John Huston adventure film The Roots of Heaven, filmed when the country was still a part of French Equatorial Africa. Documentary filmmaker Edouard Sailly made a series of shorts in the 1960s depicting daily life in the country. During this period there were a number of cinemas in the country, including in N'Djamena Le Normandie, Le Vogue, the Rio, the Étoile and the Shéherazade, and also the Rex in Sarh, the Logone in Moundou and the Ciné Chachati in Abéché. The film industry suffered severely in the 1970s-80s as Chad became engulfed in a series of civil wars and foreign military interventions; film production stopped, and all the cinemas in Chad closed down. Following the ousting of dictator Hissène Habré by Idriss Déby in 1990 the situation in the country stabilised somewhat, allowing the development of a nascent film industry, most notably with the work of directors Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Issa Serge Coelo and Abakar Chene Massar. Mahamat-Saleh Haroun has won awards at the Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou, Venice International Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival. In January 2011 Le Normandie in N'Djamena, said to now be the only cinema in Chad, re-opened with government support.

Renaissance FC or RFC is a football (soccer) club from Chad based in N'Djamena. The club won Chad Premier League 7 times, last time in 2007. Recently, it produced few Chad national football team players, such as Mondésir Alladjim, Yaya Kerim, Esaie Djikoloum and Hassan Diallo.

Elect-Sport FC is a football (soccer) club from Chad based in N'Djamena. It plays its home matches on Stade Omnisports Idriss Mahamat Ouya in N'Djamena.

Foullah Edifice Football Club is a football (soccer) club from Chad based in N'Djamena. They had a few Chadian national team players, like Mbaya Brice, Massama Asselmo, Ferdinand Gassina and Hassan Hissein.

The 2010 Première Division was the 23rd season of the Chad Premier League, the top Chadian league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1988. National championship system was changed for this season, and it was decided that Ligue de N'Djaména will be considered national championship, unlike seasons before, where the championship consisted out of regional champions only. The season began in January 2010, and concluded on 12 October 2010.

Gazelle as 2015 season winners, were the defending champions, since 2016 season was interrupted due financial difficulties. The season started on 7 May 2017.

The 2015 LINAFOOT was the inaugural season of the LINAFOOT, the top Chadian league for association football clubs. The season was supposed to run from February to August, with teams playing 22 matches each totalling 132 matches in the season. However, due financial difficulties, championship was interrupted after 15 rounds and later resumed, finishing on 24 December 2015.

The 2016 LINAFOOT was supposed to be the 2nd season of the LINAFOOT, the top Chadian league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2015. Gazelle were the defending champions. The season started on 28 July 2016. However, the championship was interrupted due financial difficulties, at the end of October.

The 2019 LINAFOOT was the 3rd season of the LINAFOOT, the top Chadian league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2015.

The 2009 Première Division was the Chad Premier League season, the top Chadian league for association football clubs, for 2008/09. Elect-Sport came into the season as defending champions of the 2008 season. Gazelle won the National Championship title after beating Renaissance (Abéché) 3-1 in the final. AS CotonTchad as the cup winners qualified to Confederation Cup, after beating ASBNF de Koumra 3-0 in the final.
