Seeds

All 11 Big East schools participated in the tournament. Teams were seeded by the conference record with tie-breaking procedures to determine the seeds for teams with identical conference records. The top five teams received first-round byes. Seeding for the tournament was determined at the close of the regular conference season.

The 2013 Big East men's basketball tournament, officially known as the 2013 Big East Championship, was the 34th annual Big East men's basketball tournament, deciding the champion of the 2012–13 Big East Conference men's basketball season. For the 31st consecutive season, the tournament was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, from March 12–16, 2013. The tournament only featured 14 teams due to Connecticut being given a one-year postseason ban due to APR penalties. This would have been the last year with as many as 16 teams participating in the Big East tournament, but Connecticut was ineligible and West Virginia moved to the Big 12 before the beginning of the season. The conference tournament champion received an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA tournament.

The 2014 American Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament was the first conference tournament of the American Athletic Conference. It was the first conference tournament held since the split of the original Big East Conference. While The American is the legal successor to the old Big East, the rights to conference tournament in Madison Square Garden were retained by the new Big East, so the 2014 tournament was numbered as the new conference's first edition. The tournament was held March 12–15 in the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee and decided a champion of the 2013–14 American Athletic Conference men's basketball season. It was Villanova's second straight tournament championship.

The 2019 Big East men's basketball tournament was the men's basketball postseason tournament for the Big East Conference. It was held from March 13 through March 16, 2019 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Villanova defeated Seton Hall 74–72 to win the tournament, and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. With the win, Villanova became the first team to win the Big East tournament three consecutive times.

The 2020 Big East men's basketball tournament was the postseason tournament men's basketball tournament for the Big East Conference. It was to have been held from March 11 through March 14, 2020, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and the two first-round games were played on March 11.

The 2021 Big Ten men's basketball tournament was a postseason men's basketball tournament for the Big Ten Conference of the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season which took place March 10–14, 2021. The tournament was originally to be held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. However, on February 9, the tournament was moved to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana to better deal with testing concerns raised by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The winner of the tournament, the Villanova Wildcats, received the conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA tournament.

The 2022–23 Marquette Golden Eagles men's basketball team represented Marquette University during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team is led by second-year head coach Shaka Smart and plays their home games at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a member of the Big East Conference. The Eagles finished the season 29–7, 17–3 in Big East play to win the regular season championship. They defeated St. John's, UConn, and Xavier to win the Big East tournament. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East region. They defeated Vermont before losing to Michigan State in the Second Round of the tournament.
