The Citadel Bulldogs women's volleyball team represented The Citadel in the 2021 NCAA Division I women's volleyball season. The Bulldogs played as members of the Southern Conference and were led by fourth year head coach Dave Zelenock. They played their home games at McAlister Field House.

Contents

The Bulldogs finished in fifth place in the SoCon, and then swept the conference tournament to claim the SoCon championship for the first time in program history. This also marked the first women's team conference championship for The Citadel, and their first winning season in program history. The Bulldogs advanced to their first NCAA Tournament, where they were defeated in straight sets by eighth-seeded Georgia Tech. [2] [3] [4] [5]

Previous season

The Bulldogs finished 9–12 overall and 7–9 in the SoCon in the 2020–21 season, which was altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This marked the highest winning percentage in program history, and the best conference record.

John Cohen is the 16th athletic director for the Auburn University Tigers. He is former head baseball coach of Mississippi State University, where he also served as the athletic director from 2016 to 2022. He played college baseball at Mississippi State (1988–1990) after spending a single season at Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama (1986). He also played on the 1990 College World Series team his senior year at Mississippi State. He then spent two years in the Minnesota Twins farm system (1990–1991). He served as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri from 1992 to 97 before becoming head coach at Northwestern State University from 1998 to 2001, where he won two conference championships. He moved on to the University of Florida for two seasons (2002–2003) as an assistant before accepting the head coaching job at the University of Kentucky. On June 6, 2008, Cohen was announced as the head coach of his alma mater, Mississippi State.

The Citadel Bulldogs baseball team represents The Citadel in college baseball. They are classified as NCAA Division I and play in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs are led by Tony Skole, who will lead his first season in 2018. They made their one appearance in the College World Series in 1990. They are the first and through 2022 only military school to appear in the College World Series. The Citadel has claimed eight Southern Conference Baseball Tournament titles and produced seven major league players.

The 2004 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament was held at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in Charleston, SC from May 26 through May 30. Third seeded The Citadel won the tournament and earned the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. It was the Bulldogs seventh SoCon tournament win.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament</span> Postseason collegiate womens volleyball tournament

The 2021 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began on December 2, 2021 and ended on December 18th, 2021, to determine the Division I National Champion in women's volleyball. Wisconsin won its first NCAA national championship by defeating Big Ten rival Nebraska 3–2. The championship match was played in front of an NCAA record crowd of 18,755.

The 2021 Southern Conference women's soccer tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Southern Conference held from October 26 through November 7, 2021. The tournament was held at campus sites, with the higher seed hosting. The ten-team single-elimination tournament consisted of four rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Furman Paladins were the defending champions but were unable to defend their crown, losing 4–2 in the final to the Samford Bulldogs. This was the fourth Southern Conference tournament title for the Samford women's soccer program, all four of which have come under coach Todd Yelton. As tournament champions, Samford earned the Southern Conference's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament.
