The 2022 South African Rugby League season was the twelfth season of domestic rugby league in South Africa. Two competitions were contested, the Rhino Cup (First Division) and Protea Cup (Second Division), with twelve clubs taking part overall.

Others took to the townships and promoted the league at the grass roots, which saw some of the most successful periods of rugby league in South Africa. The game has changed over 50 years of involvement in South Africa and today is played by a small number of teams in 3 competitions, the Rhino Cup, Protea Cup and Western Province Rugby League which is administered by the South African Rugby League.

Kevin Sinfield is the defence coach for the Leicester Tigers Rugby Union club. He is a former professional rugby league player, captain and director of rugby for Leeds Rhinos. Sinfield also represented England and Great Britain. His usual position was loose forward, although he played both stand-off and hooker on occasion. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest kickers in rugby league history.

The Sharks are a South Africa rugby union team that participates in the annual Currie Cup tournament. The Sharks are the current representative team of the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union and they draw most of their players from the KwaZulu-Natal Province. For most of their history, the team was known simply as 'Natal', with a nickname of 'The Banana Boys' or Piesangboere in Afrikaans, until the mid-1990s when they were re-branded as the Sharks.

The Woodbridge Cup is a rugby league competition run by the New South Wales Country Rugby League. It encompasses smaller senior clubs in the Mid-West and Central West of the state. The neighbouring Mid-West Cup competition's remaining clubs merged into the league in 2022 when that league initially folded. For all intents and purposes, it is a second division competition in the Group 11 and from 2022, Group 10 areas.

Mouritz Botha is a former rugby union player who played for the Saracens and Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva Premiership. He joined English club Bedford Blues in 2006 and made 73 appearances before moving to Saracens in 2009. Botha was named in the 2011 England Saxons squad for the Churchill Cup after qualifying for England on residency grounds. He was forced to retire on the 30th of September 2017, on medical advice related to concussion.

TUKS Rugby League Football Club is a South African rugby league football club based at the University of Pretoria in Pretoria, Gauteng. They compete in the Rhino Cup as TUKS Reds and in the Protea Cup as the TUKS Blues. They have won the Rhino Cup twice in a row.

The 2013–14 Rhino Club Challenge is the 3rd season of the Rhino Cup, the first division of professional rugby league in South Africa. The contest takes between September 7 and November 30. There are 4 teams, with the TUKS Blues winning the premiership, and the Middelburg Tigers becoming the runners-up.

Jacobus Petrus van Wyk is a South African rugby player for Italian team Zebre Parma in United Rugby Championship. His regular position is centre or wing.

The 2022–23 European Rugby Champions Cup will be the ninth season of the European Rugby Champions Cup, the annual club rugby union competition run by European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) for teams from the top six nations in European rugby and South Africa. It will be the 28th season of pan-European professional club rugby competition.
