The 2022 Besta-deild kvenna is the 51st season of the women's association football highest division league in Iceland. Valur are the defending champions after claiming the 2021 championship. [1]

Teams

The 2021 Úrvalsdeild kvenna is contested by 10 teams, eight of which played in the division the previous season and two promoted from the 2021 1. deild kvenna. The bottom two teams from the previous season, Tindastóll and Fylkir were relegated to the 1. deild kvenna and were replaced by KR and Afturelding, the winner and runners-up of the 2021 1. deild kvenna respectively.

Freyr Alexandersson is an Icelandic football coach and former player who is currently the manager of the Danish 1st Division club Lyngby Boldklub. He was manager of the Icelandic women's national football team from 2013 to 2018.

Njarðvík women's basketball, commonly known as Njarðvík, is the women's basketball department of Ungmennafélag Njarðvíkur, based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. It won the national championship and the basketball cup in 2012. As of the 2020–2021 season, the team plays in the second-tier 1. deild kvenna.

The Fjölnir women's basketball team, commonly known as Fjölnir, represents Ungmennafélagið Fjölnir multi-sport club and is based in Grafarvogur, Reykjavík. As of the 2018–2019 season it plays in the Icelandic 1. deild kvenna.

The 2019–20 Úrvalsdeild kvenna is the 63rd season of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top tier women's basketball league on Iceland. The season started on 2 October 2019. On 13 March 2020 the season was postponed for at least four weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country. On 18 March, the rest of the season was canceled. Grindavík was relegated and Valur was named divisional champions for having the best record at the time of the cancelation but no national champions would be named for the season.
