The Horizon League is a collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, the league's eleven member schools are located in and near the Great Lakes region.

LeRoy Butler III is an American former professional football player who spent his entire 12-year career (1990–2001) as a safety for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022.
Paul D. "Tony" Hinkle was an American football, basketball, and baseball player, coach, and college athletic administrator. He attended the University of Chicago, where he won varsity letters in three sports. Hinkle captained the Chicago Maroons basketball team for two seasons was twice selected as an All-American, in 1919 and 1920. After graduating from the University of Chicago, Hinkle moved on to Butler University as a coach. There, over the course of nearly 50 years, he served as the head football coach, head basketball coach, and head baseball coach. Hinkle was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a contributor in 1965. Butler's home basketball arena was renamed as Hinkle Fieldhouse in the coach's honor in 1966.

The team plays its home games at the 7,500 seat Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis. The Bulldogs are coached by Mike Uremovich.
Darius Jermaine Butler is an American former professional football player who was a safety and cornerback for nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL), primarily with the Indianapolis Colts. He played college football for the Connecticut Huskies and was selected by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He has also played for the Carolina Panthers. Butler began his career as a cornerback and switched to safety in 2016.
Craig Butler is a former professional Canadian football defensive back and special teams coordinator and assistant defensive backs coach for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for Saint Thomas Aquinas Flames high school football team and played CIS football for the Western Ontario Mustangs where he co-won the Dr. Claude Brown memorial trophy for top male student athlete. Butler was also named an OUA All-Star and All-Canadian in his senior season. He was also a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. As well, Butler was recognized as a member of the CFL All-Decade team, 2010-2019.
Malcolm Terel Butler is an American football cornerback who is a free agent. He previously played in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons. Butler played his first four seasons with the New England Patriots, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2014, and spent his next three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. After retiring ahead of the 2021 season, he returned to the Patriots the following year, but was released when he suffered a preseason injury.
