The 2022 Special Honours in New Zealand was a special honours list, dated 9 June 2002 and published in New Zealand on 14 June 2022. [1] The actor, Sam Neill, was redesignated from Distinguished Companion to Knight Companion of New Zealand Order of Merit. He had previously declined redesignation when titular honours were reintroduced by the New Zealand government in 2009. [2]

New Zealand Order of Merit Royal order of merit in New Zealand

The New Zealand Order of Merit is an order of merit in the New Zealand royal honours system. It was established by royal warrant on 30 May 1996 by Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand, "for those persons who in any field of endeavour, have rendered meritorious service to the Crown and nation or who have become distinguished by their eminence, talents, contributions or other merits", to recognise outstanding service to the Crown and people of New Zealand in a civil or military capacity.

Sir Alan Russell Frampton is a New Zealand agricultural economist. He had a career as an academic at Massey University from 1968 to 1983, before working as a consultant. He was a member of the New Zealand Dairy Board from 1973 to 1993, and was chair of the Tatua Dairy Company from 1990 to 2003.
