The 2022 Tour of Oman was a road cycling stage race that took place between 10 and 15 February 2022 in Oman. The race was rated as a category 2.Pro event on the 2022 UCI ProSeries calendar, and was the 11th edition of the Tour of Oman. [1] [2]

Contents

The race returned after a two-year hiatus and made its inaugural appearance in the UCI ProSeries. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to a national mourning period following the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, [3] while the 2021 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [4]

Teams

Seven of the 18 UCI WorldTeams, eight UCI ProTeams, one UCI Continental team, and the Omani national team made up the 18 teams that participated in the race. [5] Only six teams entered a full squad of seven riders each; five teams entered six riders each, while the remaining six teams entered five riders each. With one non-starter each, Bingoal Pauwels Sauces WB was reduced to six riders, while Uno-X Pro Cycling Team was reduced to four. In total, 100 riders started the race, [6] of which 86 finished. [7]

Tour of Oman Omani multi-day road cycling race

The Tour of Oman is an annual professional road bicycle racing stage race held in Oman since 2010 as part of the UCI Asia Tour. It was scheduled to become part of the new UCI ProSeries in 2020, but both the 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2010 Tour of Oman was the first edition of the Tour of Oman cycling stage race. It was rated as a 2.1 event on the UCI Asia Tour, and held from 14 February to 19 February 2010, in Oman. The race was won by Fabian Cancellara of Team Saxo Bank.

2013 Tour de France Cycling race

The 2013 Tour de France was the 100th edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling's Grand Tours. It started on the island of Corsica on 30 June and finished on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on 21 July. The Tour consisted of twenty-one stages and covered a total distance of 3,403.5 km (2,115 mi). The overall general classification was won by Chris Froome of Team Sky. Second and third respectively were Nairo Quintana and the Team Katusha rider Joaquim Rodríguez.

The 2012 Tour of Oman was the third edition of the Tour of Oman cycling stage race. It was rated as a 2.1 event on the UCI Asia Tour, and was held from 14 to 19 February 2012, in Oman.

2014 Tour de France Cycling race

The 2014 Tour de France was the 101st edition of the race, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The 3,660.5-kilometre (2,274.5 mi) race included 21 stages, starting in Leeds, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, on 5 July and finishing on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on 27 July. The race also visited Belgium for part of a stage. Vincenzo Nibali of the Astana team won the overall general classification by more than seven minutes, the biggest winning margin since 1997. Jean-Christophe Péraud placed second, with Thibaut Pinot (FDJ.fr) third.

The 2014 Tour of Qatar was the 13th edition of the Tour of Qatar cycling stage race. It was rated as a 2.HC event on the UCI Asia Tour, and was held between 9 and 14 February 2014, in Qatar.

The 2014 Tour of Oman was the fifth edition of the Tour of Oman cycling stage race. It was rated as a 2.HC event on the UCI Asia Tour, and was held from 18 to 23 February 2014, in Oman.

The 2014 Paris–Nice was the 72nd running of the Paris–Nice cycling stage race, often known as the Race to the Sun, and the first European World Tour event of the season. It started on 9 March in Mantes-la-Jolie and ended on 16 March in Nice and consisted of eight stages. It was the second race of the 2014 UCI World Tour season. The race took on an unusual profile in 2014 in that it did not feature a time trial of any description and did not have any stages with a summit finish. The intention was to make the race more open and encourage attacking racing rather than a defensive race ruled by time trial experts or the climbing specialists.

The 2015 Ladies Tour of Qatar was the 7th edition of the Ladies Tour of Qatar. It was organised by the Qatar Cycling Federation with technical and sports-related assistance from Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.) under the regulations of the Union Cycliste Internationale. It took place from Tuesday 3 February until Friday 6 February 2015 and consisted of 4 stages. 15 teams of 6 riders took part. The event was broadcast live by beIN Sports.

The 2017 Tour of Oman was a road cycling stage race that took place between 14 and 19 February 2017 in Oman. It was the eighth edition of the Tour of Oman and was rated as a 2.HC race as part of the 2017 UCI Asia Tour. The previous year's winner, Vincenzo Nibali, did not defend his title.

2018 Tour de France Cycling race

The 2018 Tour de France was the 105th edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling's three Grand Tours. The 3,351 km (2,082 mi)-long race consisted of 21 stages, starting on 7 July in Noirmoutier-en-l'Île, in western France, and concluding on 29 July with the Champs-Élysées stage in Paris. A total of 176 riders from 22 teams participated in the race. The overall general classification was won by Geraint Thomas of Team Sky. Tom Dumoulin placed second, with Thomas's teammate and four-time Tour winner Chris Froome coming third.

The race took place between 12 and 16 August 2020 in France, having originally been scheduled for 31 May to 7 June, and then postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in France. It is the 101st edition of the Volta a Catalunya and the seventh race of the 2022 UCI World Tour.
