The 2023 FIBA U17 Women's South American Championship was the 22nd edition of the South American basketball championship for women's under-17 national teams. The tournament was played in Bucaramanga, Colombia, from 26 November to 2 December 2023. [1]
In the first round, the teams were drawn into two groups. The first two teams from each group advanced to the semifinals; the third and fourth teams advanced to the 5th–8th place playoffs; the fifth-placed team in Group A finished 9th overall.

The tournament was held from 23 to 29 July in Bangalore, India. Before this edition, the tournament was known as the FIBA Asia Championship for Women, and only involved FIBA Asia members. FIBA Oceania teams Australia and New Zealand, as well as Fiji competed in the tournament for the first time.
The 2018 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2019 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup. The tournament, which was also the 24th edition of the biennial competition, was held in Bangalore, India from 28 October to 3 November. The top four teams qualified and will represent FIBA Asia in the 2019 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Thailand.
The 2018 FIBA Under-18 Women's Americas Championship is an international basketball competition that currently takes place from August 1–7, 2018 in Mexico City, Mexico. This is the twelfth edition of the championship, and is the FIBA Americas qualifying tournament for the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Thailand. Eight national teams from across the Americas, composed of women aged 19 and under, will compete in the tournament.
The 2018 Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol, or 2018 FIBA South American Basketball League, was the 23rd edition of the second-tier level continental professional club basketball competition in the Americas, the FIBA Americas League. Sixteen teams from South America competed over three rounds to determine the champion. The defending champions, Guaros de Lara, did not have the opportunity to defend their title, after the Venezuelan Basketball Federation failed to register the team in the competition, alleging financial troubles. Franca of Brazil won their first Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol championship in team history by beating Instituto of Argentina.
The 2019 FIBA Africa U16 Championship for Women was the 6th FIBA Africa U16 Championship for Women, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Rwanda from 26 July to 4 August, with the games played in Kigali. The top two teams qualified for the 2020 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup in Romania.
