The 2023 Longford Senior Hurling Championship was the 47th staging of the Longford Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Longford County Board in 1904.

Contents

Three teams contest the Longford Senior Hurling Championship. Clonguish Gaels enter the championship as the defending champions. [1] [2] Longford Slashers and Wolfe Tones (Mostrim) round out the field.

The Championship is played on a round-robin format between the three clubs involved. [3] Each team plays the other once in a three-game system, guaranteeing at least two championship games. Top two teams after three rounds play in a lone final. There is no relegation.

The final would see Longford Slashers and Clonguish Gaels meet at Pearse Park, in a repeat of last year's final. [4] Clonguish Gaels defeated Longford Slashers by 2-14 to 1-14, winning back-to-back titles and their seventh overall. [5]

Clonguish Gaels represented Longford in the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship, losing out to St Fechins (Louth) in Round 1 on 28th October 2023. [6] [7]

Situated in the west of County Longford, it is bordered by four parishes in County Longford, Drumlish, Killoe, Killashee and Templemichael (Longford) – the parish also shares a common boundary with the Province of Connacht in that it adjoins the parishes of Bornacoola and Gortletteragh in County Leitrim and Tarmonbarry in County Roscommon. Killoe Young Emmets is a Gaelic Football and Ladies' Gaelic football club based in Killoe, County Longford, Ireland. The club is also referred to by the Irish 'Emmet Óg' or by 'Killoe Emmet Óg'. Organised Gaelic Games in the Parish of Killoe can trace its origins back to 1889 with the foundation of the Killoe Erins Pride club. The Galway county hurling team represents Galway in hurling and is governed by Galway GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The championship started with a group stage and then progressed to a knock out stage.

The 2021–22 All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship was the 18th staging of the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's junior inter-county club hurling tournament. It will be the first club championship to be completed in two years as the 2020-21 series was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The championship began on 14 November 2021 and ended on 5 February 2022.

The 2022–23 All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship was the 19th staging of the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's junior inter-county club hurling tournament. The championship ran from 29 October 2022 to 14 January 2023.

The 2023–24 All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship was the 20th staging of the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's junior inter-county club hurling tournament. The draws for the respective provincial championships took place at various stages. The championship ran from 28 October 2023 to 13 January 2024.

Niall MacEneaney was an Irish hurler and hurling coach. At club level he played with Wolfe Tones and Mattock Rangers was also a member of the Louth senior hurling team. MacEneaney also coached the St Fechin's club.
