The 2023 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad was a road cycling one-day race that took place on 25 February 2023 in Belgium, starting in Gent and finishing in Ninove. [1] It was the 78th edition of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the fourth event of the 2023 UCI World Tour. [2]
Twenty-five teams participated in the race, including all eighteen UCI WorldTeams and seven UCI ProTeams teams. Each team entered seven riders, for a total of 175 riders. [3]

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, previously Omloop Het Volk, is a one-day road cycling race in Belgium, held annually in late February. It is the opening event of the Belgian cycling season, as well as the first race of the year in Northwestern Europe, and holds significant prestige because of it. Since 2017, the race is part of the UCI World Tour, cycling's top-tier professional events.
Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne is an annual single-day road cycling race in Belgium. It is held one day after Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, on the last Sunday of February or the first of March, and completes the opening weekend of the Belgian cycling season. It was ranked a 1.HC event of the UCI Europe Tour before joining the UCI ProSeries in 2020. Tom Boonen holds the most wins with three victories.

Jasper Stuyven is a Belgian professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Lidl–Trek. He is considered to be a classics specialist, and has won several major races including the 2021 Milan–San Remo, one of cycling's monuments, the 2020 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the 2016 Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne. He has also had success in stage races, winning the overall classification of the 2019 Deutschland Tour as well as a stage of the 2015 Vuelta a España. Stuyven has also competed in six editions of the Tour de France, finishing on the podium several times on different stages.
Michael Valgren Hundahl is a Danish professional road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam EF Education–EasyPost. In 2018, Valgren won Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the Amstel Gold Race.
