Coco Gauff won the girls' singles tennis title at the 2018 French Open, defeating compatriot Caty McNally in the final, 1–6, 6–3, 7–6(7–1).

Defending champion Ashleigh Barty won the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 Miami Open after Bianca Andreescu retired from the final with the scoreline at 6–3, 4–0. Barty saved a match point en route to the title, in the second round against Kristína Kučová.
Tamara Zidanšek was the two-time defending champion, having won the last edition in 2019, however she was unable to defend her title as she was still competing at the 2021 French Open, reaching the semi-final of the Grand Slam.

This was the first major final for Gauff and for McNally.

It took place at the Club Deportivo Potosino in San Luis Potosí, Mexico between 27 March and 9 April 2023.
Emina Bektas won the singles title at the 2023 Abierto Tampico, defeating Anna Kalinskaya in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 7–6(7–3).
Varvara Lepchenko was the reigning champion from when the event was last held in 2021, but did not participate this year.

It was the first major women's doubles title for both players. They did not drop a set during the tournament. Kichenok and Ostapenko became the first Ukrainian and Latvian player respectively to win the women's doubles title at the US Open. Ostapenko also became the first Latvian to win a major doubles title.
