The Gravel and Tar Classic is a one-day cycling race, held annually in the Manawatu region of New Zealand, since 2016, finishing in Palmerston North. It is rated 1.2 and has been part of UCI Oceania Tour since 2018. The race is primarily on sealed roads, however the highlight of the race is the multiple gravel sectors throughout the course. The race is now considered to be the toughest one-day elite race in the Oceania region. The race is held in January each year, making it one of the first races on the UCI Calendar, and a key chance for teams and riders to gain early UCI points. The event has seen teams enter from countries such as Sweden, Japan, the US, and Australia, along with the best New Zealand men's trade teams.

The 2019 UCI Oceania Tour was the 15th season of the UCI Oceania Tour. The season began on 19 January 2018 with the Gravel and Tar and finished on 17 March 2019 with the Continental Championships.

Bolton Equities Black Spoke is a New Zealand UCI Continental cycling team focusing on road bicycle racing. The team is run by ex-professional Scott Guyton.

The 2020 UCI Oceania Tour was the 16th season of the UCI Oceania Tour. The season began on 15 January 2020 with the New Zealand Cycle Classic and finished on 9 February 2020 with the Herald Sun Tour.

MitoQ–NZ Cycling Project is a New Zealand UCI Continental cycling team focusing on road bicycle racing. The team is run by ex-professional Roman Van Uden with James Canny, ex elite rider, the founder.

The 2023 season for Bolton Equities Black Spoke started in New Zealand with the New Zealand Cycle Classic in January. This is the first season for the team as a UCI ProTeam having spent the last three years as a UCI Continental team.
