The 2023 junior college football rankings are conducted on a week-to-week basis and based on the NJCAA Division I, NJCAA Division III, and the 3C2A. The 3C2A poll is released by the Junior College Athletic Bureau's Fred Baer.

The AFCA Coach of the Year Award is given annually to college football coaches by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). The AFCA's section for community and junior colleges presents an identical award to a head coach at a two-year institution. Paul "Buster" Sanderford is a retired college basketball coach who coached from the 1970s to 2000s. From 1976 to 1982, Sanderford accumulated 163 wins and 19 losses while coaching the women's basketball team at Louisburg Junior College. At Louisburg, Sanderford won the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship in 1981 and lost the championship in 1982. As part of the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers basketball team from 1982 to 1997, Sanderford won the Sun Belt Conference women's basketball tournament seven teams and reached the final of the 1992 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament. With 365 wins and 120 losses, Sanderford has held the record for most women's basketball wins at Western Kentucky for over twenty years.

The season ended with three national champions: two from the National Junior College Athletic Association's (NJCAA) Division I and Division III and one from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).

Two human polls and a committee's selections comprise the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III football rankings for the 2024 season. Unlike in Division I's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the NCAA, Division III's college football's governing body, bestows a national championship on the winner of the Stagg Bowl – the championship round of a 32-team postseason tournament. The main weekly poll that begins in the preseason is the D3football.com Poll which ranks the top 25 colleges in Division III football. For the first time in AFCA history they released a preseason poll for DIII in 2024.
