The 2024 Africa Men's Sevens is the 14th edition of the Africa Men's Sevens, an annual African rugby sevens tournament. Event takes place at the Labourdonnais Sports Grounds, Mauritius between 29 and 30 June and 6 and 7 July 2024. [1]
Twelve teams participate.
Teams will play in two tournaments across two weekends in Mauritius. The winner is decided by a series table.
Ghana withdrew before the tournament and were replaced by South Africa. [2]

The SVNS, known as the HSBC SVNS for sponsorship reasons, is an annual series of international rugby sevens tournaments run by World Rugby featuring national sevens teams. Organised for the first time in the 1999–2000 season as the IRB World Sevens Series, the competition was formed to promote an elite-level of international rugby sevens and develop the game into a viable commercial product. The competition has been sponsored by banking group HSBC since 2014.
World Rugby is the governing body for the sport of rugby union. World Rugby organises the Rugby World Cup every four years, the sport's most recognised and most profitable competition. It also organises a number of other international competitions, such as the World Rugby Sevens Series, the Rugby World Cup Sevens, the World Under 20 Championship, and the Pacific Nations Cup.
The Namibia national rugby union team represents Namibia in men's international rugby union competitions nicknamed the Welwitschias, are a tier-two nation in the World Rugby tier system, and have participated in seven Rugby World Cup competitions since their first appearance in 1999. They are governed by the Namibia Rugby Union.
The South African national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, the Rugby World Cup Sevens, the Summer Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. Overall, the team has won the World Rugby Sevens Series 4 times, as well as having won 40 tournaments in the series.
The Mauritius national rugby union team represents Mauritius in international rugby union. Mauritius is a member of World Rugby, but the national team is ranked as third tier, and Mauritius have yet to compete in either the Africa Cup or Rugby World Cup.
The Ireland national rugby sevens team competes in several international rugby sevens competitions. The team is governed by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU).
Rugby union in Mauritius is a minor but growing sport
Kenya women's national rugby sevens team plays in several tournaments including the African Women's Sevens Championship, Dubai Invitational Sevens and the Hong Kong Women's Sevens.
The Rugby Europe Sevens are a series of rugby sevens tournaments held by Rugby Europe. It was formerly known as the FIRA-AER Sevens until 2013, and the Sevens Grand Prix Series until 2021. Only one annual tournament existed prior to 2011, when Rugby Europe created a series of tournaments, following the model of the World Rugby Sevens Series. The main division is known as the Rugby Europe Championship Series, formerly known the Grand Prix, followed by the Trophy Series, Conference 1, and Conference 2. The competitions use a promotion/relegation system.
The 2015 RA Africa Cup Sevens is an Olympic qualification tournament for rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa on 14–15 November 2015. It was the 3rd championship in a series that began in 2013.
The 2018 Hong Kong Sevens was the 43rd edition of the Hong Kong Sevens tournament, and the seventh tournament of the 2017–18 World Rugby Sevens Series. The performance from this tournament determined the first fourteen seedings of the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament alongside the past year's series and the previous six event of the 2017–18 season.
The 2017 Africa Cup Sevens is a rugby sevens tournament held in Kampala, Uganda on 6–7 October 2017. It will be the 5th championship in a series that began in 2013.
The 2017 Women's Africa Cup Sevens was a women's rugby sevens tournament held in Monastir, Tunisia on 16–17 September 2017. This tournament served as a qualifier for two tournaments, only the winner qualifies for next years 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens, whereas the top two teams qualify for the 2018 Commonwealth Games which will also be held the following year.
Twelve teams qualified for men's rugby sevens at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Japan automatically qualified as host, with the top four teams of the 2018–19 World Rugby Sevens Series securing their spots. Afterwards, qualification was determined with each of the six continental confederations determining a representative, and the remaining qualification spot determined through an international sevens tournament.
The 2019 Africa Men's Sevens was a rugby sevens tournament held in Johannesburg on 8–9 November 2019. It was the seventh championship in Africa Men's Sevens, a series that began in 2013.
The World Rugby Sevens Challenger is an annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national teams run by World Rugby that includes men's and women's events. Sponsored by banking group HSBC, it is the second tier of competition below the SVNS. Teams on the respective men's and women's tours of the Challenger Series compete for promotion to the first tier as a core team.
The Mauritius national badminton team represents Mauritius in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Mauritius Badminton Association, the governing body of badminton in Mauritius.
The men's qualification for the Olympic rugby sevens tournament takes place between November 2022 and June 2024, allocating twelve teams for the final tournament. All six World Rugby zones are expected to have a continental representation in the Olympic rugby sevens tournament. The host nation France reserves a direct quota place each in the men's and women's tournament with the remainder of the total quota attributed to the eligible NOCs across three qualifying routes.
The 2023 Africa Men's Sevens was the 13th edition of the Africa Men's Sevens, an annual African rugby sevens tournament. The qualifier event took place at the Labourdonnais Sports Grounds, Mauritius between 24 and 25 June 2023. The main event took place in Harare, Zimbabwe. The winner qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and the second and third placed teams qualified for the 2024 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament. In addition, the top two teams qualified for the 2024 Challenger Series.
The 2023 Africa Women's Sevens was the 11th edition of the Africa Women's Sevens, an annual African rugby sevens tournament. The qualifier event took place at the Lusaka Rugby Club, Zambia between 1 and 2 July 2023. The main event took place in Tunisia. The winner qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and the second and third placed teams qualified for the 2024 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament. In addition, the top two teams qualified for the 2024 Challenger Series.
