The 2024 BAL Sahara Conference was the 3rd season of the Sahara Conference, one of the three conferences of the 2024 season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The composition of the conference and the schedule were announced on 15 February 2024. [1] The conference games began on 4 May and ended on 12 May 2024.
Despite being considered the weakest team, the Rivers Hoopers came out with three straight wins. The Hoopers were the first team to clinch a playoffs spot on the fifth gameday. [2] US Monastir, the 2022 BAL champions, lost their first three games. They became the first former BAL champions to lose four games in a row, dating back to the previous season. [3] The game between APR and Rivers Hoopers on May 11 was the first double-overtime game in BAL history. [2] On May 9, Mike Fofana scored a buzzer-beater game winner to give AS Douanes the win over Rivers Hoopers. [4]
Coming into the final game day on May 12, the last two games decided the last two playoffs spots. [5] On the last gameday, US Monastir qualified after finishing with a 3–3 record. AS Douanes and APR battled for the last playoffs spot, with the winner advancing, and AS Douanes eventually secured its spot. [6]

Christopher Ewaoche Obekpa is a Nigerian professional basketball player for the AS Douanes of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Marcus Christopher Crawford is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for US Monastir of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He played college basketball for the University of Memphis. Crawford has had an extensive career with teams in Europe and Africa. He guided AS Douanes to the 2023 BAL Final, and was named to the All-BAL First Team the same year.
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is the premier men's basketball league in Africa. Founded in 2019, the organization was established by both the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
The 2021 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 1, was the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established as a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA, the BAL is the highest tier continental league of Africa, replacing the FIBA Africa Basketball League. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BAL held its inaugural season one year later as planned, with the season beginning in 2021. Initially the league planned to play in six venues in six countries; however, due to the pandemic the season was held in a bio-secure bubble in Kigali, Rwanda. The 2024 BAL playoffs will be the postseason tournament of the 2024 BAL season to determine the champions of the 4th Basketball Africa League (BAL) season. The playoffs will begin on 24 May 2024 with the seeding games and finish on 1 June 2024 with the final. For a fourth consecutive season, the playoffs will be hosted in the BK Arena in Kigali.
