The 2024 FIBA Men's Pre-Qualifying Olympic Qualifying Tournaments were five basketball tournaments that were contested by 40 national teams, where the top teams earned a place in the 2024 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. The tournaments were held between 12 and 20 August 2023. [1] [2]
The tournaments were held in Nigeria, Argentina, Turkey, Poland, Estonia and an Asian country to be named, which was later announced to be Syria. [3] [4]
There were five qualifying tournaments with the teams split per their continent (Europe has two tournaments) and played a tournament in a single venue. The winning team advanced to the Olympic Qualification tournament.
Teams that missed out on the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the next best-ranked team(s) participated in these tournaments. [1]

Basketball at the 1980 Summer Olympics was the tenth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It was held from July 20 to July 30 at the Olympiiski Indoor Stadium and at the CSKA Sports Palace, both located in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. Finals of men's events were held 30 July at the Olympiiski Indoor Stadium.
Basketball contests at the 1972 Summer Olympics was the eighth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle in Munich, Germany from August 27 to September 9. The Soviet Union controversially won the gold medal game against the United States. This was the first time that the USA did not win a gold medal since the sport's introduction into the Olympics at the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics. The EuroBasket 2022 qualification was a basketball competition that was played from November 2017 to February 2021, to determine the 20 FIBA Europe nations who would join the automatically qualified co-hosts Czech Republic, Georgia, Italy, and Germany at the EuroBasket 2022 finals tournament.

The 2023 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup was the 16th edition of the FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup, the biennial international men's youth basketball championship contested by the U19 national teams of the member associations of FIBA. The tournament was hosted in Debrecen, Hungary, from 24 June to 2 July 2023.
