The 2024 FIBA Men's Pre-Qualifying Olympic Qualifying Tournaments were five basketball tournaments that were contested by 40 national teams, where the top teams earned a place in the 2024 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. The tournaments were held between 12 and 20 August 2023. [1] [2]

Hosts selection

The tournaments were held in Nigeria, Argentina, Turkey, Poland, Estonia and an Asian country to be named, which was later announced to be Syria. [3] [4]

Format

There were five qualifying tournaments with the teams split per their continent (Europe has two tournaments) and played a tournament in a single venue. The winning team advanced to the Olympic Qualification tournament.

  7. A final decision was made in April, to decline Russia's entry due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Bulgaria was the next best ranked European team. [8]

Twelve teams qualified for the women's basketball at the 2020 Summer Olympics tournament. The host nation and the 2018 World Cup winner qualified. The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification for the FIBA Europe region, began in February 2020 and concluded in February 2023. The process determined the twelve teams that would qualify for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament determined the last ten teams for the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup. It was held from 10 to 14 February 2022.

The tournament was held from 12 to 20 August 2023. Two tournaments were held, with the winning team of each tournament qualifying for the 2024 FIBA Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. Gliwice, Poland and Tallinn, Estonia hosted the first tournament and Istanbul, Turkey hosted the second one.

The 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Pre-Qualifying Tournaments will be held from 19 to 25 August 2024 in Mexico City, Mexico and Kigali, Rwanda. The winner of each tournament, are qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments.
