The 2024 FIBA U18 Women's AfroBasket was an international under-18 women's basketball competition that was held in Pretoria, South Africa from 2 to 14 September 2024. [1] [2] [3]
The tournament, which was also the 17th edition of the biennial competition, qualified the top two teams to represent FIBA Africa in the 2025 FIBA Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup in the Czech Republic. This was the first time that South Africa organized this event.
Mali successfully defended the title and won this event for the ninth time.

Qualified for the 2025 FIBA Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup |
The 2015 FIBA Africa Championship for Women was the 22nd AfroBasket Women, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and FIBA Africa. The tournament was hosted by Cameroon from 24 September to 3 October, with games played at the Yaoundé. The winners qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
FIBA AfroBasket 2017 was the 29th edition of the AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament was jointly hosted by Tunisia and Senegal. Angola was proposed by FIBA Africa to host the tournament, an offer declined as the country is holding general elections in the same period.
The 2017 FIBA Women's AfroBasket was the 23rd AfroBasket Women, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and FIBA Africa. The tournament was hosted by Mali from 18 to 27 August 2017, with games played in Bamako. The winners and runners-up qualified for the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification for the FIBA Africa region, began in November 2017 and concluded in February 2019. The process determined the five African teams that would participate at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification process determined 30 of the 32 teams that qualified for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. As co-hosts, the Philippines and Japan each got an automatic qualification for the tournament when they were awarded the joint hosting rights along with co-host Indonesia.
The 2019 AfroBasket Women was held from 10 to 18 August 2019 in Dakar, Senegal. It was also the first step for the qualification for FIBA Africa for the women's basketball tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The top six teams were qualified for the African pre-qualifying tournament.
FIBA AfroBasket 2021 was the 30th edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament was hosted by Rwanda for the first time. It was originally scheduled to take place between 17 and 29 August 2021, but it was moved back a week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to 24 August to 5 September 2021.
The 2019 FIBA AfroCan was the inaugural edition of the AfroCan, a men's basketball continental competition of Africa. Only players who play for Africa-based basketball clubs are eligible to participate. The tournament was hosted by Mali, from 19 to 28 July 2019.
The AfroBasket 2021 qualification was a basketball competition that was played from January 2020 to July 2021, to determine the fifteen FIBA Africa nations who would join the automatically qualified host Rwanda at the AfroBasket 2021 final tournament.
