Three-time defending champion Björn Borg defeated Roscoe Tanner in the final, 6–7(4–7), 6–1, 3–6, 6–3, 6–4 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 1979 Wimbledon Championships. It was his fourth Wimbledon title and eighth major title overall.

Rune was the first Scandinavian to win a Masters 1000 title since Robin Söderling at the 2010 Paris Masters. It was Djokovic's first loss in an Masters 1000 final after winning the first set, having previously been 30–0.

Arthur Fils defeated Francisco Cerúndolo in the final, 6–3, 7–5 to win the singles tennis title at the 2023 ATP Lyon Open. It was his first ATP Tour title.

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alex de Minaur in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the singles tennis title at the 2023 Queen's Club Championships. By winning the title, Alcaraz reclaimed the ATP no. 1 singles ranking from Novak Djokovic. It was his first title on grass.

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard defeated Tomás Martín Etcheverry in the final, 6–4, 1–6, 7–6(9–7), to win the singles tennis title at the 2024 ATP Lyon Open. It was his first ATP Tour title. He saved a championship point in the third-set tiebreak and became the second consecutive wildcard to win the tournament, after Arthur Fils the previous year.
