The 2024 Outrigger Challenge Cup is be an international futsal tournament organized by the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation, and hosted in Majuro from 22 to 24 July 2024. [1] Six teams will take part in the tournament. The tournament was originally announced as the Men's Futsal Series, to be played against Micronesia, [2] but after Kiribati's participation was announced, the name was officially changed to the Outrigger Challenge Cup. [3]

Contents

The Marshall Islands played its first-ever international of any football code during the tournament, while Micronesia fielded its first-ever national futsal side. [4]

Broadcast

The tournament was reported to be broadcast free on YouTube using cameras controlled by artificial intelligence. [5] No channel is available and any information, disclaimers, or image permissions have been given to the participating federations.

Majuro is the capital and largest city of the Marshall Islands. It is also a large coral atoll of 64 islands in the Pacific Ocean. The Northern Mariana Islands national football team represents the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in international men's football. The Federated States of Micronesia Football Association or FSMFA is the governing body of football in the Federated States of Micronesia, and of the national team. They are not a member of FIFA or a regional confederation.

The Micronesian Games are a quadrennial international multi-sport event within the Micronesian region. The Games were first held in 1969 in Saipan. The 2010 Micronesian Games were initially due to be held in Majuro, until the hosts withdrew. The 2010 Games were hosted by Palau. The Federated States of Micronesia won the bidding to host the 2014 Micronesian Games in Pohnpei State, and later won again against CNMI for the 2018 Micronesian Games, held in Yap State.

Soccer is a minor sport in the island country of Nauru. The country is not a member of FIFA.

The 8th Micronesian Games were held from July 20 to July 30, 2014, in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).

The Federated States of Micronesia national under-23 football team, nicknamed the Four Stars, is the national U-23 football team representing the Federated States of Micronesia and is controlled by the Federated States of Micronesia Football Association. The team is managed by Australian coach Stan Foster, with the assistant manager Curtis Graham.

The Kiribati national futsal team represents Kiribati in inter national futsal. The team is an associate member of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC).

The Marshall Islands Soccer Federation is the governing body of soccer in the Marshall Islands. Marshall Islands is not a member of its regional body, the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), or FIFA, but is working on becoming one. The federation is recognized by the Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee. It currently organizes the national team, national futsal team, and women's national futsal team.

The New Nauru Stadium is a multi-use stadium currently under construction on the Pacific island nation of Nauru.

The 10th Micronesian Games were held in Majuro, Marshall Islands. After initially being scheduled for July 25 to August 5, 2022, the competition was originally delayed a year because of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, including finishing construction of the New Marshall Islands Stadium. The games were held June 15-24, 2024.

The 2023 Micronesian Futsal Cup, commonly referred to as Micro Cup 2023, was the inaugural edition of the Micronesian Futsal Cup, the international futsal championship organised by Federated States of Micronesia Football Association for the men's national teams of Micronesia. It was the first competition of any kind for the FSM islands for five years and its first futsal event.

The Marshall Islands national football team represents the Pacific island nation of the Marshall Islands in senior men's international football and is controlled by the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation. The 2024 Ratak Cup, also known as the Unrepresented Sports Ratak Cup due to sponsorship reasons, was the first edition of the Ratak Cup that is planned to take place on the Marshall Islands annually. It is a futsal competition and took place from 27 January to 3 February.

The Marshall Islands national futsal team represents the Marshall Islands during international futsal competitions. It was formed in 2024 and is controlled by the Marshall Islands Soccer Federation.

The Federated States of Micronesia national futsal team represents the Federated States of Micronesia in international futsal. It was formed at the end of June 2024 under the auspices of the Federated States of Micronesia Football Association. The team is represented by the Pohnpei Soccer Team, the twice Microgames gold winner. The coach is Vasantha Senarathgoda. It was quickly assembled upon request of RMI federation to join a series of matches between 20 and 26 July 2024 in Majuro. Despite all the difficulties and offensive claims of the inability of the Nation to bring its kits and resources, the team flew to Majuro from Pohnpei on Monday 22 July. Financial, technical, and sports resources were provided by Senators, the Pohnpei State Legislature, and many individuals. The jersey kits were quickly designed and produced by Micronesians for the Micronesians.
