Elisabetta Cocciaretto is an Italian professional tennis player. She has been ranked by the WTA as high as No. 29 in singles, achieved on 21 August 2023, and No. 141 in doubles, which she attained on 14 October 2024. Cocciaretto made her debut for the Italy Fed Cup team in 2018. She was a member of the Italian squad which won the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup.

Garbiñe Muguruza was the two-time defending champion, but chose not to participate.

Veronika Kudermetova was the defending champion from 2019, when the tournament was last held as a WTA 125K series event, but she chose to compete in Dubai instead.

Iga Świątek defeated Karolína Plíšková in the final, 6–0, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 Italian Open. It was her first WTA 1000 singles title, and the 13 points Świątek lost in the championship match is the fewest on record in a WTA 1000-level final. This was the first WTA Tour singles final to be resolved with a 'double bagel' scoreline since Simona Halep defeated Anastasija Sevastova at the 2016 Bucharest Open, and was just the tenth such final in WTA Tour history. With the win, Świątek broke into the top 10 of the WTA rankings for the first time. Both finalists saved match points in prior rounds – Świątek saved two match points in her third round match against Barbora Krejčíková, whilst Plíšková saved three match points in her quarterfinal match against Jeļena Ostapenko.

The 2024 San Luis Open was a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the 29th edition of the tournament for the men which was part of the 2024 ATP Challenger Tour and 2nd edition for the women which was part of the 2024 WTA 125 tournaments. It took place at the Club Deportivo Potosino in San Luis Potosí, Mexico between 25 and 31 March 2024.

Aliona Bolsova and Andrea Gámiz were the reigning champions, but Bolsova did not participate this year. Gámiz partnered Yuliana Lizarazo but lost in the quarterfinals to Anna Bondár and Tamara Zidanšek.

Camila Osorio defeated Marie Bouzková in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–5) to win the singles tennis title at the 2024 Copa Colsanitas. It was her second title at her home event, after 2021.

Nadia Podoroska won the singles title at the 2024 Barranquilla Open, defeating defending champion Tatjana Maria in the final, 6–2, 1–6, 6–3.
