The 20th Iowa Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. [1] [2]

Service

The 20th Iowa Infantry was organized at Clinton, Iowa [1] [2] and mustered in for three years of Federal service on August 25, 1862. [3] The 20th Infantry moved to St. Louis, Mo., September 5; thence to Springfield, Mo., arriving September 24. They were attached to the following units over the course of their service:

Total strength and casualties

The 20th Iowa mustered 1026 men at one time or another during its existence. [6] It suffered 1 officer and 13 enlisted men who were killed in action or who died of their wounds and 2 officers and 157 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 173 fatalities. [7] 52 were wounded.

The 1st Texas Cavalry Regiment was a cavalry regiment from Texas that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. This regiment, composed of eight companies, was organized at New Orleans, Louisiana from November 6, 1862, to February 26, 1864, to serve three years. It served in the Department of the Gulf and in Texas. It was increased to twelve companies on September 10, 1864, by the consolidation of the 2nd Texas Cavalry Regiment. Afterwards, it continued to serve until it was mustered out of service November 4, 1865, in accordance with orders from the War Department.

1st Indiana Cavalry Regiment, also known as the 28th Regiment of Volunteers was a cavalry unit that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Organized in August 1861, it did most of its fighting in the state of Arkansas. The regiment was in action at Cotton Plant, Helena, Bayou Fourche, Pine Bluff, Mount Elba, and Marks' Mills. One company was detached and fought in several actions in the Vicksburg campaign. The regiment was discharged in June 1865.

Battery F, 1st Missouri Light Artillery Regiment was an artillery battery unit from Missouri that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The battery participated in operations in December 1861. Battery F fought at the battles of Prairie Grove and Van Buren in December 1862. The battery fought at Vicksburg, Brownsville, Mustang Island, and Fort Esperanza in 1863. The unit fought at Spanish Fort, and Fort Blakely in 1865. Battery F was mustered out on 11 August 1865.
