31st Supply Ships Division is a logistical division of the Ukrainian Navy concerned with providing logistical and technical support to other divisions of the Ukrainian Navy. It is based at the Western Naval Base and was established in 2018 by the splitting of the 8th Security and Support Division.
In 2018, the 8th Security and Support Division was split into two units, one being the 8th Raid Protection Ships Division and the other being the 31st Supply Ships Division.
Three vessels of the division ( the Nova Kakhovka, the Smila, and the Chygyrin) became integrated for the training of 2nd and 5th year naval cadets and were scheduled to visit Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria. [1]
The division's tugboat Yany Kapu attempted to travel from the Black Sea port of Odesa in south-western Ukraine to the Azov Sea port of Mariupol in eastern Ukraine but was intercepted by Russian warships and was captured in the ensuing Kerch Strait incident. [2] The captured vessel was returned to Ukraine on November 18, 2019, near Cape Tarkhankut and was towed to Ochakiv on November 20, 2019. [3]
In April 2020, the division's vessel Shostka carried out exercises with the Ukrainian Marine Corps. [4]

Kuznia na Rybalskomu is a ship building and armament company in Kyiv, Ukraine. Situated on the Dnieper River and presently concentrating on river ships, the company is also able to produce and repair small sea vessels, as well as various military equipment.
The Ukrainian Marine Corps, also known simply as the Ukrainian Marines, is the maritime land force service branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2023, responsible for conducting expeditionary and amphibious operations. From its modern foundation in 1993 up to 2023 it constituted part of the Coastal Forces of the Ukrainian Navy. It is used as a component part of amphibious, airborne and amphibious-airborne operations, alone or in coordination with formations and units of the Ground Forces in order to capture parts of the seashore, islands, ports, fleet bases, coast airfields and other coast objects from the enemy. It can also be used to defend naval bases, vital shoreline areas, separate islands and coast objects, and security of hostile areas.
Southern Naval Base was a naval base of the Armed Forces of Ukraine located in the town of Novoozerne on Donuzlav Bay in the western part of Crimea.
Donbas was a Project 304 former Soviet repair ship that was converted to a command ship of the Ukrainian Navy's 9th Division. She was built on Szczecin Shipyard in Poland in 1969 for the Soviet Navy and entitled PM-9. "PM" is a Russian abbreviation for a repair ship, and literally means a floating repair shop. Donbas was destroyed during the Siege of Mariupol as a part of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Project 58155 Gyurza-M class is a series of small armored gunboats in service with the Ukrainian Navy. The first two vessels were laid down at the Kuznia na Rybalskomu shipbuilding plant in October 2012. Originally it was planned to build nine such vessels by 2017. In December 2013 the Ministry of Defence withdrew its contract. The class is named after the Levant viper, Гюрза, Hiurza, in Ukrainian.
10th Naval Aviation Brigade is the sole Brigade of the Ukrainian Naval Aviation established in 2004 by the merger of 9th Mixed Marine Aircraft Squadron, 316th Separate Marine Aviation Squadron and the 555th Naval Helicopter Regiment. It operates a vast arsenal of fixed-wing, rotatory and unmanned aircraft. It was previously garrisoned at Novofedorivka but is currently based at Mykolaiv.
The Kerch Strait incident was an international incident that occurred on 25 November 2018 in the Kerch Strait, during which the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) coast guard fired upon and captured three Ukrainian Navy vessels after they attempted to transit from the Black Sea into the Sea of Azov through the strait on their way to the port of Mariupol. It was the first time that Russian forces had openly engaged Ukrainian forces during the Russo-Ukrainian War.
The siege of Southern Naval Base lasted from 3 March 2014 until its definitive capture on 27 March 2014. The action began with the blockade of Donuzlav bay by the Russian missile cruiser Moskva. The Russian Navy later scuttled the Russian anti-submarine ship Ochakov and several smaller vessels in the mouth of the bay to prevent Ukrainian ships from sailing to open sea and reaching the Ukrainian fleet in Odesa. As a result, 13 Ukrainian ships were bottled up and eventually captured by Russia in Donuzlav bay. The blockade ended when the Russian Navy seized the last ship under the Ukrainian flag in Crimea, the minesweeper Cherkasy.
Dnipriany, known as Brytany before 1946, is a rural settlement in Kakhovka Raion, Kherson Oblast, southern Ukraine. It is located on the left bank of the Dnieper, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) downstream of the city of Nova Kakhovka. Dnipriany belongs to Nova Kakhovka urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. It has a population of 3,930.
Hola Prystan (P241) is a Project R1415 anti-sabotage boat of the Ukrainian Navy. Built in 1986, she has been in Ukrainian Navy service since 1997.
Skadovsk (P170) is a Project 1400M Grif-M small patrol gunboat of the Ukrainian Navy. Built in 1990, she has been in Ukrainian Navy service since 1992.
1st Naval Guard and Patrol Division formerly known as 1st Security and Support Division is a division of the Ukrainian Navy, established in 1997 it is concerned with the defense of Ukrainian coast and guarding of the installations of the Ukrainian Navy. It is garrisoned at the Western Naval Base and currently comprises several gunboats, a control ship and an anti-sabotage ship.
The 28th Naval Auxiliary Division is an Auxiliary division of the Ukrainian Navy, based at Western Naval Base. It was originally established in 2014 as the 28th Separate Search and Rescue Division and was formerly stationed at Sevastopol. It is mainly concerned with providing support to combatant ships of the Ukrainian Navy.
30th Surface Ships Division formerly known as 1st Naval Surface Ship Brigade is a NATO certified division of the Ukrainian Navy. It is a combat active unit and is amongst one of the most highly active units amongst the Ukrainian Navy. It's flagship Hetman Sahaidachny is also the flagship of Ukrainian Navy. It was established in 1993 and is currently based at the Western Naval Base.
28th Surface Ships Division formerly called as the 5th Naval Surface Ship Brigade is a division of the Ukrainian Navy based at Ochakiv. It was established in 1996 at the Southern Naval Base in Balaklava but was transferred following the Russian Invasion of Crimea.
9th Surface Ships Division is a division of the Ukrainian Navy concerned with the protection and guardian of the Ukrainian coast along the Sea of Azov. It was established in 2018 and has participated in multiple engagements during the Russo-Ukrainian War. Although officially active, all the ships of this unit have been either captured or sunk and the fact that entirety of Ukrainian coast along the Sea of Azov has been captured by Russia has rendered it out of operation.
