The 3rd Awit Awards were held in Manila Hotel located in the nation's capital, Manila. They gave awards to the outstanding musical achievements for the year 1970. [1]

The award ceremony was originally to be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in March 1971. [2] After some meetings, the Philippine Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences decided to move it to May and would be held at the Araneta Coliseum. [3] Yet again, it was delayed to June due to the elections of the board and the jurors and took place at the Manila Hotel. [4]

A total of 36 awards were given that night. Nora Aunor, Bert Dominic, the Philippine Rondalla, Vilma Santos and Danny Subido both took home the most number of awards with 2.

Maria Amapola Cabase, better known by her stage name Amapola, is a Filipino singer, actress, musician, television and radio host. She is widely known in the Philippines as the original artist for the song "Kapantay ay Langit", which was later popularized by Pilita Corrales. Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos dubbed Cabase as a "Music Ambassador" for the country in 1973 in celebration of Amapola's first concert in New York, November 3, 1973, at New York's Town Hall. In 1984, she released her international debut album produced in collaboration with jazz pianist Bobby Enriquez, who led the Cal Tjader Trio for Amapola's debut jazz album, Sophisticated Lady.

The 1st Awit Awards were held on March 23, 1969, in Makati. These awards recognized musical achievements for the year 1968. This was the only award ceremony organized by the Awit Awards Executive Committee after the Philippine Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (PARAS) took charge the next year.

The 2nd Awit Awards were held on July 16, 1970. They honored achievements in the Philippine music industry for the year 1969. This was the first time the Philippine Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (PARAS) presented these awards after the Awit Awards Executive Committee was dissolved.

The 26th Awit Awards were held in Sequoia Hotel, Quezon City. They honored the best of Filipino music for the year 2012. The Philippine Association of the Record Industry decided to hold a small event, where only the winners were invited, due to the tragic Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) that affected the country last month. The money to be used for the planned extravagant awards ceremony was instead donated to the calamity fund. Being a simple ceremony, no performances occurred.
