The 53rd Newfoundland and Labrador General election will be held on or before October 9, 2029. [1]

A majority government requires 21 of 40 seats, which the Progressive Conservative majority government already have. A Liberal government would need to gain 7 seats, while an NDP government would need to gain 19 seats.

The province's last general election was held on October 14, 2025. Newfoundland and Labrador law requires elections to be held "on the second Tuesday in October in the fourth calendar year following the polling day at the most recently held general election." [1] The Lieutenant-Governor may, at the request of the Premier, call an election earlier. Provincial law also requires an election be called within 12 months of a premier resigning to allow for a new leader of their party to become premier. [1]
