(Bam, Lonnie, and Kapin) Productions (with additional remixes produced by K-Def and B.L.A.K. Productions) Co/Produced by StarrStrukk, "5 O'Clock" was released in early 1996 and eventually reached number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 8 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, spending 20 weeks on each chart, while also topping the Hot Rap Singles at number one. The single also earned a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of 500,000 copies. Despite the success of "5 O'clock", neither her album Until the Day nor the follow-up single also titled "Until the Day" were able to achieve much success and to date she has yet to release another album. Raised in Brooklyn, he first gained recognition while still a senior in high school, when he performed live on American music executive DJ Clue's radio show, then on Hot 97. Jackson subsequently signed to DJ Clue's Desert Storm imprint, and later secured a distribution deal with major-label, Elektra. Jackson gained prominence with his first release, Ghetto Fabolous (2001), which spawned the hit singles "Can't Deny It" and "Young'n ". His second release was 2003's Street Dreams, which was supported by two US top 10 singles, "Can't Let You Go" and "Into You".

The duo is named after The Black Star Line, a shipping company founded by Marcus Garvey. Their critically-acclaimed debut album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star was released on September 29, 1998. After decades of only releasing singles and appearing on compilations, Black Star released their sophomore studio album No Fear of Time May 3, 2022 on the podcasting platform Luminary.

He was a member of a songwriting–production team composed of himself, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Terius "The-Dream" Nash. Hole Studios and Horizon Studios in Capitol Heights, Maryland, at Cue Recording Studios in Falls Church, Virginia and at Talamasca Sound in Glen Cove, New York. Production was handled by Alonzo "Lonnie" Simmons Jr., Dewayne "Bam" Staten Sr., Kapin, Chucky Thompson and Mark Murray, with Nicole Bernard serving as executive producer. The album peaked at number 94 on the Billboard 200 and number 20 on the Top R&B Albums, spending six weeks on the former and 10 weeks on the latter.
