7 Minutes (Italian : 7 minuti) is a 2016 Italian-Swiss-French drama film co-written and directed by Michele Placido.
The film premiered at the 11th Rome Film Festival and was later screened at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Inspired by a true story, it is loosely based on a drama play of the same name by Stefano Massini. [1] [2]
A textile company is acquired by a foreign multinational corporation. The new owner seems intent on not making redundancies but asks the workers to sign a particular clause that provides for the 7-minute reduction of lunch time. The development of the debate among the workers will bring each one of them to a phase of profound reflection.
Michele Placido is an Italian actor, director and screenwriter. He began his career on stage, and first gained mainstream attention through a series of roles in films directed by the likes of Mario Monicelli and Marco Bellocchio, winning the Berlinale's Silver Bear for Best Actor for his performance in the 1979 film Ernesto. He is known internationally for portraying police inspector Corrado Cattani on the crime drama television series La piovra (1984–2001). Placido's directorial debut, Pummarò, was screened Un Certain Regard at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival. Three of his films have competed for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. He is a five-time Nastro d'Argento and four-time David di Donatello winner. In 2021, Placido was appointed President of the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara.
Simonetta Stefanelli is an Italian former actress. Internationally, she is best known for her performance as Apollonia Vitelli-Corleone in the 1972 film The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Her other roles include appearances in Moses the Lawgiver, Scandal in the Family and Three Brothers. In 1992, Stefanelli made her last film appearance in the drama Le amiche del cuore directed by her then-husband Michele Placido.
