The 9th Singapore Division (9 DIV) is a combined arms division of the Singapore Army. It shares the same command as the Infantry formation of the Army. [2]

History

The 9th Division was formed on 1 October 1978 as a reserve division to manage and train reservist units before it became a combined arms division on 31 March 1992. [3] [4] On 1 January 1995, the 9th Division was restructured to include both active and reservist personnel. On 17 August 2004, the 9th Division and HQ Infantry merged to form HQ 9th Singapore Division/Infantry. [2]

The formation has one active battalion, the 1st Commando Battalion, based in Hendon Camp.

Guards, also referred to as Guardsmen, is a rapid deployment infantry formation of the Singapore Army specialising in heliborne and underslung operations. Having undergone rigorous training and working in highly coordinated teams, they can be deployed to any terrain at high speed from hovering helicopters using specialised techniques such as hover-jumping, heli-rappelling and fast-roping, along with their Light Strike Vehicles. Guardsmen are also trained in urban warfare and fighting on fortified terrain.

The Singapore Armed Forces Military Police Command, previously known as the Singapore Armed Forces Provost Unit (SAFPU), is the military police formation of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). They perform policing duties to uphold standards of discipline within the SAF, and provide security coverage for key SAF military installations and the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) headquarters at Bukit Gombak. Besides, they perform guard mounting at the Istana, and form the ceremonial guard of honour for state visits by foreign dignitaries and at other national events. Moreover, they maintain discipline within the SAF through enforcement and the operation of the SAF Detention Barracks, and search and rescue operations, amongst other duties. In wartime contingencies, the Military Police Command would be tasked with safeguarding prisoners-of-war, protecting rear echelon areas and headquarters, as well as securing important supply routes and relevant bases for Singapore.

Infantry is the main and largest formation of the Singapore Army, comprising seven active battalions—the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th Battalions, Singapore Infantry Regiment (SIR)—based in Clementi Camp, Kranji Camp III, Maju Camp, Mandai Hill Camp, Selarang Camp and, an undisclosed number of reservist battalions. The Infantry formation shares the same command as that of the Singapore Army's 9th Division.

The Singapore Combat Engineers (SCE) is a formation of the Singapore Army. Combat Engineers provide mobility by bridging gaps and clearing minefields to facilitate speedy advance of troops into enemy territory, and counter-mobility by constructing obstacles such as anti-tank ditches to impede the enemy's movement. The Combat Engineers also construct trenches, drainage systems and other related infrastructure to enhance the survivability of troops during operations.

The 38th (Irish) Brigade, is a brigade formation of the British Army that served in the Second World War. It was composed of North Irish line infantry regiments and served with distinction in the Tunisian and Italian Campaigns. Following the end of the war, the brigade was disbanded, but was reformed in sixty years later in 2007 and remains the regional formation for Northern Ireland.

The 11th Security Force Assistance Brigade is a brigade of the British Army which is intended to train and assist foreign forces. In 2021, under the Future Army changes, the brigade was redesignated, formerly being the 11th Infantry Brigade & HQ South East. Prior to the Army 2020 changes in 2013, the brigade was temporarily activated for deployment to Afghanistan, and before that engaged during the two World Wars.

The 1st Brigade is currently the largest unit of the New Zealand Army, and contains most of the army's deployable units. The brigade was formed on 13 December 2011 by amalgamating the 2nd Land Force Group and 3rd Land Force Group. Its establishment formed part of the 'Army 2015' package of reforms.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Armour (Singapore Army)</span> Military unit

Armour is the formation of the Singapore Army responsible for armoured warfare. It provides mobile firepower support and rapid mobility for the Army by helping to spearhead an advance past the enemy defences and seizing and holding key objectives on the battlefield. Armour also acts as an active deterrent towards any possible aggressors as it is known to act swiftly, being able to be deployed at a moment's notice to dominate the battlefield, hence its motto "Swift and Decisive". It has four active battalions – the 40th, 41st, 42nd and 48th Battalions, Singapore Armoured Regiment (SAR) – based in Keat Hong Camp and Sungei Gedong Camp, as well as an undisclosed number of reservist battalions.

The London Guards is an administrative formation within the British Army comprising the Army Reserve companies of the British Army's Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots and Irish Guards. The Specialist and Warrant Officer Institute (SWI) is the military training centre for warrant officers, specialists and military experts of the Singapore Armed Forces. Located at Pasir Laba Camp in the Western Water Catchment, it is made up of five schools: the SAFWOS Leadership School (SAFWOS), the Specialist and Warrant Officer Advanced School (SWAS), and three Specialist Cadet Schools.
