'Dr. Hossain Shekhar is a Bangladeshi academic and former vice-chancellor of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University. He is a former professor of the Department of Geography and the Environment at University of Dhaka.

Biography

Mahbub completed his BSc in 1975 and MSc in 1976 at the University of Dhaka. [3] [4] Two years later, he joined the faculty there as a lecturer in the Department of Geography. [3] [5]

He received his PhD in 1986 from University of Canterbury in New Zealand, for his dissertation Population Mobility in Rural Bangladesh: The Circulation of Working People. [3] [4] [6] Thereafter he continued to teach at the University of Dhaka, and became full professor in the Department of Geography and the Environment in 1997. [3]

After retirement from the University of Dhaka, he was appointed as the vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU), Gopalganj in 2020. [5]

In February 2022, Mahbub joined BSMRSTU teachers and students in demonstrating against the gang rape of a student. [7] He was injured when protestors were attacked by alleged members of the Bangladesh Chatra League. [8] [9] After four days of protests, the academic council, chaired by Mahbub, suspended classes for three days. [10]

Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ মেরিটাইম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) was established in 2013, the 37th public university of the country. It is the first maritime university in Bangladesh, the 3rd maritime university in South Asia and the 12th maritime university in the world. It has issued its first calls for admission in December, 2016. The BSc in Oceanography program was started on 3 January 2017 at the university's temporary campus in Mirpur, as part of the first-ever launch of the Bachelor class in the university. Then in 2018, the first batch of BSc in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering classes started. Two more program classes started in 2019. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Bangabandhu Memorial Museum</span> Museum in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, also known as Bangabandhu Bhaban or Dhanmondi 32, located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh, was the personal residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was also called Bangabandhu, the founder and president of Bangladesh. Mujib was assassinated with most members of his family in this residence. The museum was listed as a national heritage site in 2009 by RAJUK and was largely damaged in a mob violence in 2024.

The non-cooperation movement of 1971 was a historical movement in then East Pakistan by the Awami League and the general public against the military government of Pakistan in March of that year. After the announcement of the suspension of the session of the National Assembly of Pakistan on 1 March, the spontaneous movement of the people started, but officially on the call of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the non-cooperation movement started on 2 March and continued until 25 March. The movement lasted for a total of 25 days.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University, Kishoreganj is a government financed public university located in the town of Kishoreganj in Bangladesh. Established in 2020, BSMRU is named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country's founding father. On 24 January 2020 in regular cabinet meeting, chaired by prime minister, agreed in principle to the Acts for the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University in Kishoreganj District. Z M Parvez Sazzad, a professor at the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) in Dhaka University, will serve as the founding vice-chancellor of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University in Kishorganj for the next four years starting from 27 January 2021.

The Mausoleum of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the mausoleum of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder and the first president of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. It is located in Tungipara of Gopalganj district, the birthplace of Mujib, and was designed by architects Ehsan Khan, Ishtiaque Jahir and Iqbal Habib.

Mohammad Khaled Iqbal is a retired rear admiral of the Bangladesh Navy and former vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University. He is the former chairman of Chittagong Port Authority.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mugdho Mancha</span> Open stage in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Mugdho Mancha is an outdoor cultural stage and event venue located in Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was built at Botomool which is situated at the western end of Rabindra Sarani in Sector 7 and was named as Language Warrior Poet Mahbub Ul Alam Chowdhury Mancha in memory of Bengali Language Movement activist Mahbub Ul Alam Choudhury while organizing street drama in 2016. The Dhaka North City Corporation later assured to construct a stage structure at the site following the demands of Gitanjali Lalitkala Academy founder director Mahbub Amin Mithu. In 2022, the structure was inaugurated as the Bangabandhu Mukto Mancha in memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh. Later in 2024, it was renamed to the present name in memory of Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, a student who died in July massacre.
