Abu Talib Mohammed Amin is a retired General of the Bangladesh Army. He is a former Director General of Forces Intelligence, and a former Director General of Ansar and VDP. [1] He was forced into retirement in 2009. [2]
As brigadier general he was director of counter-terrorism unit Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Bureau of the DGFI . Later he was promoted to major general and appointed DG of DGFI. It is stated that under him the DGFI tried to create Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) in Bangladesh composed of members of Harakat ul-Jihad-Islami-Bangladesh and that he pressured former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to convince the US government to support the party. [3] In the past after the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack he was accused and framed as helping one of the suspects escape from Bangladesh with support from DGFI officer Lieutenant Colonel Saiful Islam Joarder and Saiful Islam Duke, the nephew of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Amin flew to the United States soon after the Awami League government came to power. As of 2020, he is a wanted fugitive in Bangladesh after being convicted in the criminal case over the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack. [6]
Rapid Action Battalion is an anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit of the Bangladesh Police. This elite force consists of members of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Border Guard, and the Bangladesh Ansar. It was formed on 26 March 2004 as RAT, and commenced operations on 14 April 2004.
The Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, commonly known by its acronym DGFI, is the defense intelligence agency of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, tasked with collection, collation and evaluation of strategic and topographic information, primarily through human intelligence (HUMINT). As one of the principal members of the Bangladesh intelligence community, the DGFI reports to the Director-General under the executive authority of the head of government, the Prime Minister, and is primarily focused on providing intelligence for the Prime Minister, the Cabinet of Bangladesh, and the Armed Forces of Bangladesh.

The National Security Intelligence, commonly known as the NSI, is the principal civilian intelligence agency of Bangladesh. The NSI's headquarters is in Segunbagicha, Dhaka. The NSI is the leading body of the Government of Bangladesh in the field of internal security, counter terrorism, counter intelligence and foreign intelligence. NSI is the largest among the intelligence agencies in Bangladesh, the others being the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), SB, CID, PBI and intelligence directorates of armed and paramilitary forces. The agency stands under the direct authority of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police is the unit of Bangladesh Police responsible for law enforcement in the metropolis of Dhaka, the national capital and most populous city in Bangladesh. The DMP is the largest police force unit in Bangladesh. At present, the DMP commissioner is Md. Mainul Hasan.
The 21 August 2004 Dhaka grenade attack took place at an anti-terrorism rally organised by Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on 21 August 2004. The attack left 24 dead and more than 500 injured. The attack was carried out at 5:22 pm after Sheikh Hasina, the leader of opposition had finished addressing a crowd of 20,000 people from the back of a truck. Hasina also sustained some injuries in the attack. The involvement of BNP-Jamaat led government is still debated.
On the night of 1 July 2016, at 21:20 local time, five militants took hostages and opened fire on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan Thana. The assailants entered the bakery with crude bombs, machetes, pistols, and took several dozen hostages. In the immediate response, while Dhaka Metropolitan Police tried to regain control of the bakery, two police officers were shot dead by the assailants.
Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury is a retired Bangladesh Army officer who is the former director of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence and National Security Intelligence.

Saiful Islam Duke is a retired Lieutenant Commander of Bangladesh Navy. He is the nephew of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
Saiful Islam Joarder is a former Bangladeshi Army officer later who became fugitive due to his involvement for help to escape Tajuddin, the prime suspect of 2004 Dhaka grenade attack. He is believed to be in Bangladesh.
Mujibur Rahman is a former Bangladeshi military officer who was the longest serving director general of the Special Security Force. Prior to his dismissal on 11 September, 2024, he served as general officer commanding of Army Training and Doctrine Command. Prior to that, he was Quartermaster general at Army Headquarters. He came to limelight in 2016, as the Operational Commander who carried out Operation Thunderbolt during the Holey Artisan Attack.
Mohammad Saiful Alam is a retired lieutenant general in the Bangladesh Army. His last posting was as the ambassador at Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Earlier, he was the Commandant of National Defence College, Bangladesh. He served as the Quarter Master General (QMG) of the Bangladesh Army in Army Headquarters. He was one of the former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). He also served as general officer commanding (GOC), 11 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Bogura Area.
Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury SBP, BSP, ndc, psc is a retired lieutenant general of the Bangladesh Army and served as quartermaster general (QMG) of the Bangladesh Army in Army Headquarters. Before that he was general officer commanding of Army Training and Doctrine Command. Prior to that, he was director general of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. He is the former general officer commanding (GOC) of the 10th Infantry Division and area commander, Cox’s Bazar Area and 33rd Infantry Division and area commander, Cumilla Area.
Munshi Atiqur Rahman is a retired Bangladesh Police officer who served as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the Criminal Investigation Department. He was charged and convicted for attempting to cover up the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack.
Hamidul Haque nswc, psc is a retired major general of Bangladesh Army and former Managing Director of Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory. Before that, he served as the director general of Directorate-General of Forces Intelligence. Prior to joining DGFI, he was the general officer commanding of the 17th Infantry Division and Sylhet area commander.
