A. Y. S. Parisutha Nadar was an Indian politician. He was a member of the legislative assembly elected to Madras State from Thanjavur constituency as a Congress candidate. He was elected thrice from the constituency,in 1946,1957 and 1967. [1] [2]
The people of Thanjavur,in his time,relied heavily on agriculture. There was a lack of industries and higher educational institutions. Parisutha Nadar,aided by Kamaraj was instrumental in facilitating the creation of institution of Thanjavur Medical College.
He was born in Thanjavur,on 13 April 1909,to Yagappa Nadar and Gnanammal. His elder brother was Arulanandasamy Nadar. He did his schooling at St. Antony's High School,Thanjavur. He completed his intermediate course and graduated from St. Joseph's college in Tiruchirappalli. He was equally fond of sports and excelled in them.
He was also elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) [3] in the year 1946. During this tenure,he was a member of the constituent assembly that helped formulate the Constitution of India. He was part of the transient assembly and legislature formed just before India attained its independence. Parisutha Nadar and Jerome D'Souza were part of the commission that was specially formed for "the protection of Minorities' rights" under the Indian Constitution.

As MLA for Thanjavur,he completed a project to provide drinking water to Thanjavur from Kollidam. [5] Thanjavur's Bus Stand,now referred to as the Old Bus Stand,was also instituted during his term in office. A bicycle manufacturing plant was also begun on his initiative. This was part of his vision towards providing industrial infrastructure and colleges of higher education.
A.Y.S. Parisutha Nadar was the MLA in Tamil Nadu,India for 3 terms,spanning over 15 years. He lost only once contesting against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader M Karunanidhi on a difference of about 1000 votes. He also served as the Municipal Chairman of Thanjavur apart from his dedication to the Indian National Congress. He had avery close association with Kamaraj and Kakkan.
Parisutha Nadar was among the main donors [6] of lands of about 150 acres (0.61 km2) now occupied by the Thanjavur Medical College,the New Bus Stand and the Raja Serfoji Government College.
Being a traditional agriculturist,he owned large tracts of agricultural lands cultivating paddy,banana,sugarcane and coconut. He was the first to introduce borewells in the region for irrigation. He was the first in the region to introduce mechanized systems in agriculture in the region.[ citation needed ]

Kakkan or fondly known as Kakkanji,was an Indian politician and freedom fighter who served as a member of the Constituent Assembly of India,Member of Parliament,President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and in various ministerial posts in Congress governments in the erstwhile Madras state between 1957 and 1967.
Paramarthalinga Thanulinga Nadar,also known simply as Thanulingam,was an Indian politician,Tamil Nadu Ellai Poratta Thyagi,and a staunch member of the now defunct Travancore Tamil Nadu Congress and would later emerge as a right-wing activist in the State. He served as a Member of Parliament with the Indian National Congress. The first legislative assembly Election to the Madras state based on universal adult suffrage was held in March 1952. This was the first election held in Madras state after the Indian Independence. This election was officially known as the 1951 Madras State Election,even though through delays,actual voting didn't take place until early 1952.
The second legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 31 March 1957. This was the first election held after the linguistic reorganization of Madras state in 1954. Indian National Congress and its leader K. Kamaraj won the election,and defeated its rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In 1954,due to the resignation of C. Rajagopalachari,for his controversial Kula Kalvi Thittam,the leadership of Congress was contested,between K. Kamaraj,and C. Subramaniam. Eventually,K. Kamaraj,won the support of the party,was elected leader and chief minister of Madras State in 1954. In a surprise move,he appointed both M. Bhaktavatsalam and C. Subramaniam,in his cabinet,allowing great unity amongst Congress,that ruled the state of Madras,for the next decade. This election saw future DMK leaders,M. Karunanidhi and K. Anbazhagan winning their first MLA seat in the legislative assembly.
Late ShriS. Natarajan Udayar was an Indian politician and 3 time DMK MLA from Thanjavur Constituency. A close friend and supporter of Periyar E.V. Ramaswamy,he was an early member of Dravidar Kazhagam. His association with Aringar C N Annadurai made him part ways with E.V.R. politically and join Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) as one of the earliest and founding members of DMK.

Thottakurichi Muthuswamy Nallaswamypopularly known as T.M.N was an Indian politician and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the 2nd,3rd &4th Madras State Legislative Assemblies later renamed Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly as an Indian National Congress candidate from Karur constituency in the Madras State Legislative Assembly elections in 1957,1962 and 1967.
The second legislative council election for the Madras Presidency after the establishment of a bicameral legislature by the Government of India Act of 1935 was held in March 1946. The election was held after 6 years of Governor's rule starting from 1939,when the Indian National Congress government of C. Rajagopalachari resigned protesting Indian involvement in World War II. This was the last direct election held for the Madras Legislative Council in the presidency - after Indian independence in 1947,the presidency became the Madras state and direct elections to the council were abolished. The election was held simultaneously with that of the Legislative Assembly. The Congress swept the polls by winning 32 out of 46 seats. The years after this election saw factionalism in Madras Congress party with divisions across regional and communal lines. Competition among T. Prakasam,C. Rajagopalachari and K. Kamaraj resulted in the election of Prakasam as the Chief Minister initially. But he was later defeated by Omandur Ramaswamy Reddiar with Kamaraj's support. In turn,Reddiar himself was ousted to make way for P. S. Kumaraswamy Raja with the support of Kamaraj.
M. Muhammad Ismail Rowther was an Indian politician and social worker from Tirunelveli,southern Tamil Nadu. He is the founder of Indian Union Muslim League after the partition of British India (1947). He was popularly known in Tamil Nadu and Kerala as the "Quaid-e-Millat".
Madras State was a state of India during the mid-20th century. At the time of its formation in 1950,it included the whole of present-day Tamil Nadu,Coastal Andhra,Rayalaseema,the Malabar region of North and central Kerala,Bellary,South Canara and Kollegal. Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema were separated to form Andhra State in 1953,while South Canara and Bellary districts alongwith the Kollegalam taluka of Coimbatore district were merged with Mysore State,and Malabar District with the State of Travancore-Cochin to form Kerala in 1956. Post State Reorganization in 1956,the remaining Madras State was renamed to Tamil Nadu,meaning "Tamil country" on January 14,1969.
