ABL Aviation is a full-service aircraft asset management firm that provides "tailored leasing" and services to aviation investors and lessees, focusing on commercial aircraft. The company has its head office in Dublin, and other offices in New York, Casablanca, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.

History

Ali Ben Lmadani founded ABL Aviation in December 2014 as a company specializing in Ground Support Equipment (GSE).[ citation needed ] He had worked with an investment bank on Wall Street, handling deals for airlines like Emirates and Singapore Airlines.[ citation needed ] From 2016 to 2017, ABL Aviation concentrated on the "mid-life" aircraft segment.

The company moved its headquarters to Dublin, Ireland.[ when? ] [1] Then, additional offices were opened in Casablanca, [2]  Morocco, [3]  Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Hong Kong, China.

In December 2018, ABL Aviation partnered with a Japanese conglomerate, [4] a financial conglomerate in Japan, to use Japanese Operating Lease (JOL) and Japanese Operating Lease with Call Option (JOLCO) financing structures. [5]   The partnership concentrated on investments in new and midlife aircraft for commercial passenger and freight sectors.

Between 2020 and 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, ABL Aviation and Ellington Management Group established a joint venture with a target of $800 million in aircraft assets by deploying capital and offering exposure to directly sourced deals in the global aviation industry. [6] [7] [8]

ABL Aviation partnered with airlines, such as Delta Airlines, [9] Alaska Airlines, [10] American Airlines, Air France, [11] VietJet Air, El Al, [12] LATAM Airlines, [13] Pegasus Airlines, [14] Lufthansa, KLM, [15] Wizz Air, [16] Turkish Airlines, [17] Volaris, Eva Air, [18]  T'Way Air, Virgin America, Atlas Air, Iberia Air and S7 Airlines.

Membership

ABL Aviation is a member of the Aircraft Leasing Ireland (ALI) Sustainability Charter. [19]   The company also holds memberships in several associations, such as the Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA), [20] International Air Transport Association (IATA), [21]   International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT), [22] Aviation Working Group (AWG), [23] Groupement des Industries Marocaines Aéronautiques & Spatiales (GIMAS) [24]  and Casablanca Finance City (CFC). Its main base is Port Moresby International Airport, which is located in 7 Mile, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Niugini is the Tok Pisin word for New Guinea.

As of January 2024, the American Airlines fleet consists of 957 mainline aircraft, making it the second-largest commercial airline fleet in the world. American Airlines operates aircraft manufactured by Boeing and Airbus.

As of March 2024, Air India operates a fleet of both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft with a fleet consisting of Airbus A319, A320, A320neo, A321, A321neo, A350 as well as the Boeing 777 and Boeing 787, making for a total of 135 aircraft.

As of March 2024, the Delta Air Lines fleet consists of 982 mainline aircraft, making it the largest commercial airline fleet in the world. Delta Air Lines operates a fleet manufactured by Airbus and Boeing.

Avolon is an aircraft leasing company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. It was established in May 2010 by Dómhnal Slattery and a team from RBS Aviation Capital, including John Higgins, Tom Ashe, Andy Cronin, Simon Hanson, and Ed Riley. In December 2014, Avolon went public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) with the ticker symbol AVOL, marking the largest listing of an Irish-founded company on the NYSE. In September 2015, Avolon received a cash offer from Bohai Leasing Co., an affiliated Chinese leasing and financial services company, to acquire 100% of Avolon's common shares. The acquisition by Bohai Leasing was completed in January 2016, leading to Avolon's delisting from the NYSE. In November 2018, ORIX Corporation, a Japanese financial institution, acquired a 30% stake in Avolon from its shareholder, Bohai Capital, which is part of the HNA Group.

As of March 2024, the United Airlines fleet consists of 949 mainline aircraft, making it the third-largest commercial airline fleet in the world. United Airlines operates a mix of Airbus and Boeing narrowbody and all Boeing widebody aircraft.

Lufthansa operates a mainline fleet consisting of Airbus narrow and widebody and Boeing widebody aircraft. The mainline fleet is composed of seven different aircraft families: the Airbus A320, Airbus A330, Airbus A340, Airbus A350, Airbus A380, Boeing 747 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Additionally, Lufthansa currently has orders placed for new Airbus A320neo, Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X aircraft. They have also placed an order for 40 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft with an optional 60, making it the first order of Boeing single aisle aircraft in 40 years. In the following years, the 777X will replace all Boeing 747-400 aircraft in the fleet, and the 787 and A350 will replace all remaining Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft, respectively.

Qantas operates a fleet of Airbus A330, Airbus A380, Boeing 737 and Boeing 787 making a total of 125 aircraft. This list excludes subsidiaries Jetstar, QantasLink and Qantas Freight.

The Air New Zealand fleet consists of Boeing jet aircraft for long-haul flights, and Airbus jet aircraft for domestic and short-haul international flights. The airline also operates ATR 72 and Bombardier Q300 turboprop aircraft on domestic services.

JetSmart Airlines SpA, stylized as JetSMART, is a South American ultra low-cost carrier created by US investment fund Indigo Partners, which also controls low-cost carriers like US airline Frontier Airlines, Mexico's Volaris and Hungary's Wizz Air. JetSmart's primary base of operations is Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport, servicing Santiago, Chile. It also owns and manages JetSmart Argentina, an Argentine subsidiary with a base at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires. The airline commenced scheduled operations on 25 July 2017 with a service from Santiago to Calama, made possible by CEO and founder Estuardo Ortiz Porras.

Bamboo Airways JSC is a Vietnamese airline founded in 2017. Commencing operations in January 2019, this carrier declared that it would be following the "hybrid airline" model. Bamboo Airways operates a mixed fleet of narrowbody and widebody aircraft, having hubs at Noi Bai International Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport alongside its registered base, Phu Cat Airport.

Thai Airways International operates a fleet of wide-body and narrow-body aircraft from Airbus and Boeing.
