The University of Auckland is a public research university based in Auckland, New Zealand. The institution was established in 1883 as a constituent college of the University of New Zealand. Originally it was housed in a disused courthouse. Today, the University of Auckland is New Zealand's largest university by enrollment, hosting about 40,000 students on five Auckland campuses. The City Campus, in the Auckland central business district, has the bulk of the students and faculties. There are eight faculties, including a law school, as well as three associated research institutes.
Saint Kentigern College is a private co-educational Presbyterian secondary school in the suburb of Pakuranga on the eastern side of Auckland, New Zealand, beside the Tamaki Estuary. Otago Polytechnic was a public New Zealand tertiary education institute, centred in Dunedin with additional campuses in Cromwell and Auckland. Otago Polytechnic provided career-focused education and training, offering a range of New Zealand accredited postgraduate qualifications, degrees, diplomas and certificates at levels 2–10. In November 2022, it was formally merged into the new national mega polytechnic Te Pūkenga, ending its existence as an independent entity.

Auckland International College was an independent coeducational secondary school in Auckland, New Zealand. AIC was established by a Japanese educational for-profit corporation, Oshu Corporation. It adopted the IB Diploma Programme as its sole curriculum plus a preparation year programme for the course. The school ran with a Northern Hemisphere timetable. AIC also offered a six-month course running from January to June for international students whose English is not at a high enough level to embark on the year 11 preparation year programme. The AIC English course for senior secondary studies covered all curriculum subjects, developing and improving English language skills required for further study in a New Zealand classroom. The Japanese for-profit corporation, Oshu Corporation, that owned the school permanently closed the school in 2023 due to difficulty attracting international students.
