A Pair of Kings is a 1922 American silent comedy film featuring Oliver Hardy. [1]
As described in a film magazine, [2] King August (Semon) is threatened with a revolution and death, so he abdicates in favor of the Stranger (Semon), a dockworker who looks like the King, who is hidden in a box and smuggled into the palace. The new ruler proves too lively for the plotters, and after smashing numerous vases over their heads, the plotters are dumped into a cistern beneath the palace. The dockworker is knighted by the newly crowned queen (Carlisle).
Oliver Norvell Hardy was an American comic actor and one half of Laurel and Hardy, the double act that began in the era of silent films and lasted from 1926 to 1957. He appeared with his comedy partner Stan Laurel in 107 short films, feature films, and cameo roles. He was credited with his first film, Outwitting Dad, in 1914. In most of his silent films before joining producer Hal Roach, he was billed on screen as Babe Hardy.

He was a star in his own right, appearing in more than 100 films for nine different companies. Beyond acting, he also directed short comedies in the 1910s and '20s, and produced films.
