Aaron G. Reardon is an American politician and lobbyist who served as the Snohomish County Executive from 2004 to 2013. First elected to the post in 2003,Reardon was sworn in as the youngest county executive in the United States. [1] On February 21,2013,Reardon announced his resignation effective May 31,2013.
Prior to serving as Snohomish county executive,Reardon served as a Washington State Senator and a member of the state House of Representatives.
Reardon attended Mariner High School in Everett,Washington and lettered in football and swimming. His interest in competitive swimming led him to attend Central Washington University,but his swim career ended two months after his arrival. He earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in economics and public administration. [2] During college,he volunteered on multiple statewide and local Democratic campaigns.
After graduating from college,Reardon was selected for a post-graduate position with the Downtown Seattle Association,where he lobbied on behalf of Seattle businesses. [3]
In 1998,aged 27,Reardon sought election to the Washington House of Representatives. Reardon won the general election with more than 55% of the vote.
Reardon was easily re-elected in 2000 and vacated the seat in 2002 to run for the Washington State Senate. [4] [5] In 2002,Reardon won election to the 38th Legislative District Senate seat,garnering 65 percent of the vote. [6]
In 2003,Reardon won a three-way Democratic Primary election for the Snohomish County executive position. In the primary election,Reardon defeated former Democratic state senator Kevin Quigley. Reardon won the November general election garnering 52 percent of the countywide vote. [7] Reardon positioned himself as a centrist Democrat,campaigning on a platform that called for decreasing taxes while implementing a long-term strategic growth plan specific to Snohomish County. In 2007,Reardon retained his seat as County Executive defeating Republican Jack Turk. Reardon received 65 percent of the popular vote. [9] In 2011,Reardon won a third term as county executive,defeating Republican Mike Hope,a Seattle police officer and member of the Washington State Legislature. [10] In August 2012,a Skagit County judge dismissed a petition by a local blogger to recall Reardon because it had not been sworn in under oath. [11]
On February 21,2013,Reardon announced his resignation as county executive effective May 31,2013. Reardon cited the ongoing financial toll on him and his family,regarding legal costs to continue to successfully defend against political allegations of improper use of county resources in his re-election campaign and an extra-marital affair. With a population of 827,957 as of the 2020 census,it is the third-most populous county in Washington,after nearby King and Pierce counties,and the 75th-most populous in the United States. The county seat and largest city is Everett. The county forms part of the Seattle metropolitan area,which also includes King and Pierce counties to the south.

Community Transit (CT) is the public transit authority of Snohomish County,Washington,United States,excluding the city of Everett,in the Seattle metropolitan area. It operates local bus,paratransit and vanpool service within Snohomish County,as well as commuter buses to Downtown Seattle and Northgate station. CT is publicly funded,financed through sales taxes,farebox revenue and subsidies,with an operating budget of $133.2 million. In 2021,the system had a ridership of 4,862,500,or about 20,300 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2022,placing it fourth among transit agencies in the Puget Sound region. The city of Everett,which serves as the county seat,is served by Everett Transit,a municipal transit system.
Washington's 8th congressional district is a district for the United States House of Representatives located in western Washington State. It includes the eastern portions of King,Pierce,and Snohomish counties,and crosses the Cascade mountains to include Chelan and Kittitas counties. The district's western part includes the exurban communities of Sammamish,Issaquah,and Maple Valley but does not include Seattle and Tacoma's more immediate suburbs. On its east side,the 8th's population centers include the rural communities Wenatchee,Leavenworth,and Ellensburg. It is currently represented in the U.S. House of Representatives by Democrat Kim Schrier,who was first elected to the seat in 2018.

The 2009 Seattle mayoral election took place November 3,2009. Incumbent Seattle mayor Greg Nickels sought reelection but finished third in the August 18,2009 primary election. The general election was instead between Joe Mallahan and Michael McGinn. McGinn beat Mallahan in the election with 51% of the vote share,becoming Seattle's next mayor.
The 2012 Washington gubernatorial election took place on November 6,2012. Candidates in the election were chosen in an August 7,2012 primary election,under the state's nonpartisan blanket primary system,which allows voters to vote for any candidate running in the race,regardless of party affiliation. The two candidates who received the most votes in the primary election qualified for the general election.

Michael J. O'Brien is an American politician and former member of the Seattle City Council who represented District 6 in northwest Seattle. He was first elected in 2009 to a different,city-wide council seat. He was the leading proponent of the opt-out list for the Yellow Pages. He was the only opponent of the proposed deep bore tunnel under downtown Seattle on the city council. He was chair of the local chapter of the Sierra Club before running for office. In this capacity,he was one of the leading opponents of the 2007 Roads and Transit ballot measure.

A special election was held on November 7,2017,to fill the vacant seat in the Washington State Senate representing the 45th district. The seat was left vacant after the death of incumbent Andy Hill in October 2016. Dino Rossi,a former candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010 and for governor in 2004 and 2008,was appointed to fill the seat until the election. He announced that he would not run for the seat. The election was then contested between Manka Dhingra of the Democratic Party and Jinyoung Lee Englund of the Republican Party,who advanced as the top two finishers in the August primary. Dhingra won the election by more than ten percent,giving the Democratic caucus a 25–24 majority for the 2018 session.
These six off-year races featured special elections to the 113th United States Congress to fill vacancies due to resignations or deaths in the United States House of Representatives. Two were due to Congressmen taking seats in the United States Senate,one resigned to take jobs in the private sector,one resigned to take a job in the public sector,and one resigned due to an impending federal indictment regarding misuse of campaign funds.
Daniel Aaron Strauss is an American politician who serves on the Seattle City Council from District 6. A native of Seattle's Ballard neighborhood,he previously worked as an aide to local politicians,including Seattle councilmember Sally Bagshaw.
