Delta State is a state in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is a Nigerian politician he was the Minister of Transportation up on till May 16th 2022, when he resigned to contest for Nigeria's presidency under the ruling APC [All Progressive Congress] Party. He served under the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari as a Minister of Transportation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He previously served in oil-rich Rivers State as Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015 and Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007. On April 9, 2022, Amaechi declared interest to contest in the Presidential election in 2023.
Benedict Bengioushuye Ayade is a Nigerian politician and the current governor of Cross River State since 29 May 2015. He ran successfully for the office of governor in April 2015 on the platform of People's Democratic Party (PDP). Before that, he was a member of the 7th Senate of Nigeria. He was re-elected as the governor of Cross River State in the 2019 gubernatorial elections. Ayade, on Thursday, May 20, 2021, announced his defection to All Progressives Congress (APC) in Calabar, capital of the State, and was received by Yobe Governor and APC caretaker Committee Chair, Mai Mala Buni.

General elections were held in Nigeria on 23 February 2019 to elect the President, Vice President, House of Representatives and the Senate. The elections had initially been scheduled for 16 February, but the Electoral Commission postponed the vote by a week at 03:00 on the original polling day, citing logistical challenges in getting electoral materials to polling stations on time. In some places, the vote was delayed until 24 February due to electoral violence. Polling in some areas was subsequently delayed until 9 March, when voting was carried out alongside gubernatorial and state assembly elections.
