Abdul Kady Karim (died 12 or 13 November 2014) [1] [2] was a Sierra Leonean politician, accountant and academic. He was a member of the United National People's Party (UNPP). He ran for President in Sierra Leone's August 2007 general election and finished in 7th place with 7,260 votes (.39 percent of total votes) nationally. [3]
He joined the UNPP as a member in 2001. [4] He was elected leader of the party in 2006 at its convention in Freetown. Upon election he stated "It will not be easy to reverse these ills that the APC and the SLPP have afflicted on this nation, but we can do it together, it will require an equality of sacrifice not a sacrifice of equality." [5]
He resigned as a leader from the party in 2010; [4] in 2012 it was necessary for him to deny the accuracy of a press report indicating that he was still chairman and leader of the UNPP. [6]
He died in Maryland, in the United States, in November 2014; his death may have related to knee surgery he underwent several months before. It was noted that "The late professor acted as head of many family homes within his family circles who depended on him for their livelihood." [1]
An obituary stated: "The late Professor is a father whose determination was to serve his country of birth by creating jobs and change the political landscape by joining the political race." [1]
Karim, an accountant by trade, was educated at George Washington University. He has taught his trade at Bowie State University, Southeastern University, and Strayer University, the last being his occupation at the time of the 2007 presidential election.
Karim had 6 children, which were evenly split between Sierra Leone and the United States. His wife was currently employed by the United States State Department in the Voice of America - Africa.

An economist and attorney by profession, Kabbah spent many years working for the United Nations Development Programme. He retired from the United Nations and returned to Sierra Leone in 1992.
The Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) is one of the two major political parties in Sierra Leone, along with its main political rival the All People's Congress (APC). It has been the ruling party in Sierra Leone since 4 April 2018. The SLPP dominated Sierra Leone's politics from its foundation in 1951 to 1967, when it lost the 1967 parliamentary election to the APC, led by Siaka Stevens. Originally a centre-right, conservative party, it identifies since 2012 as a centre-left social democratic party, with a centrist tendency.
Siaka Probyn Stevens was the leader of Sierra Leone from 1967 to 1985, serving as Prime Minister from 1967 to 1971 and as President from 1971 to 1985. Stevens' leadership was often characterized by patrimonial rule and self-indulgence, consolidating power by means of corruption and exploitation.

John Albert Musselman Karefa-Smart was a Sierra Leonean politician, medical doctor and university professor. He served as the first Foreign Minister under Sierra Leone's first Prime Minister, Sir Milton Margai. He was an ordained Elder of the United Methodist Church.
Thaimu Bangura was a politician from Sierra Leone. He was a government minister from 1980 to 1982 and again from 1996 to 1999. From 1991 to 1999, Bangura was the National Leader of the People's Democratic Party of Sierra Leone as well as their presidential candidate in the 1996 elections. In that election, Bangura finished 3rd behind winner and current president Ahmad Tejan Kabbah of the SLPP and John Karefa-Smart of the UNPP with 16.07% of the initial round of voting. He did not qualify for the run-off election. He was Minister of Finance of Sierra Leone from March 1996 to May 1997.
Ernest Bai Koroma is a Sierra Leonean politician who served as the fourth President of Sierra Leone from 17 September 2007 to 4 April 2018.

Kaifala Marah is a Sierra Leonean politician, accountant, Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone (2016–2017), and Minister of Finance (2013–2016). On 7 March 2017, Dr. Marah resigned as governor to seek the nomination of the All People's Congress (APC) for the presidential election of 2018.
General elections were held in Sierra Leone on 7 March 2018 to elect the President, Parliament and local councils. Incumbent President Ernest Bai Koroma did not run for another term, as he was constitutionally ineligible, having served the maximum ten years in office.
James Bambay Kamara served as Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police Force from 1987 until 1992.
