Sonia Elangbam, [1] known by the stage name Abenao Elangbam, (born September 28, 1986 [1] ) is an Indian actress working in Manipur film.

Early life and education

She completed her Master in Adult Education from Manipur University. [1]

Career

Before coming into films, she has acted in some theatrical plays under People's Arts and Dramatic Association, Imphal. [2] Her first film is Chingjaogum Lepliba Thamoi, where she is playing a supporting role. She is most popularly known for her role of Naobi in Thoiba Thoibi. Among her popular films were Thoiba Thoibi, Akhunba Mani, Thokkidagi Kishi, Nobap , Ekhenglaktagi Red Rose, Chumthang Makhong, Bema Bema, Liklaai, Leikang Thambal, Tabunungda Akaiba Likli , Western Sankirtan, Phijigee Mani and Waikhu. Awards

She was awarded the Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in the film Pabunggi Cycle at the 2nd SSS MANIFA 2013. [3] She was also awarded the Best Actress in a Leading Role for the film Tabunungda Akaiba Likli at the 3rd SSS MANIFA 2014. [4] She was also honoured with Th. Ashokumar Memorial Award in Arts and Culture at the 10th Foundation Day of USU, Khurai. [4]

Aliyah is a 2018 Manipur film directed by Yoimayai Mongsaba, written by Binoranjan Oinam and produced by Reshi Thokchom. The film features Artina Thoudam in the titular role and Gurumayum Bonny in the lead roles. The film was released on 19 August 2018 at MSFDS, Palace Compound, Imphal. It is a romantic film about a Hindu guy Leishabi and a Muslim lady Aliyah, where religion happens to be the main reason for their relationship to fall apart.

<i>Meitan Araba</i> 2019 film

Meitan Araba is a 2019 Manipur film directed by Lukanand Kshetrimayum and written by Sen Sagolsem. The film features Brahmacharimayum Dishiraj and Avi Khundrakpam in the lead roles. The film was released on 6 January 2019 at MSFDS, Palace Compound, Imphal. The film earned 11 nominations at the 8th SSS MANIFA 2019, winning 7 awards including the Best Feature Film Award.

Khamba Thoibi is a legendary Meitei language epic poem based on the 12th century love saga between Khuman prince Khamba and Moirang princess Thoibi in the ancient kingdom of Moirang. The poetry is composed by the legendary Bard Hijam Anganghal of Samurou and is regarded as the national epic of the Manipuris. The poetry is the greatest of all the epic poetries in Meitei literature, with 34,000 verses, even longer than the Ramayana.
