Abhinav Kumar (born 31 August 1973) is an Indian Police Service officer and the current Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttarakhand Police. He is the 12th DGP of the Himalayan state. [1] [2]

Early life and education

Kumar was born in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and attended the all-boys boarding The Doon School in Dehradun. [3] He then read philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) at Mansfield College, Oxford in the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Indian Police Service career

Kumar joined the Indian Police Service in 1996. Before becoming the 12th DGP of Uttarakhand, Kumar served as Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Uttarakhand as well as the Special Principal Secretary to Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. [4]

Malkiat Singh was a 1977 batch IPS officer and the former Director General of Police for Uttar Pradesh and was head of Intelligence wing. He is a recipient of the President's Police Medal for distinguished service, which was awarded by the President of India on Independence Day. The Uttar Pradesh state government also appointed him chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC).
