Abhishek Chamoli (born 1997) is an Indian para athlete from New Delhi. He competes in men's javelin throw F54 category. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris. [1]
Chamoli's father died when he was young and his mother, a physical education teacher, brought him up. At 21, he met with an accident as a pillion rider in Delhi and injured his spinal cord. [2] He is now paralysed below his chest. Then he took up para sports. And he learnt the basics from his first coach Hukam Singh Rawat. He is supported by Samarth by Hyundai programme in partnership with NDTV. [3]
Chamoli represented India at the 13th Fazza International Para Athletics Championships held in Dubai in March 2022. [3] In 2023, he won a bronze in men's javelin throw F-54 at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China. Earlier, he won a gold in F54 javelin at the Italian Open 2023 World Para Athletics Grand Prix along with a bronze medal in F54 shot put F54. [3]
He booked an Olympic quota for India at the Paris 2023 Para Athletics World Championships. [3]
Devendra Jhajharia is an Indian Paralympic javelin thrower competing in F46 events. He is the first Indian Paralympics player to win two gold medals at the Paralympics. He won his first gold in the javelin throw at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, becoming the second gold medalist at the Paralympics for his country. At the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, he won a second gold medal in the same event, bettering his previous record. Devendra is currently being supported by the Olympic Gold Quest. He becomes India's most decorated Paralympic player by winning his third medal, a silver at the 2020 Summer Paralympics at Tokyo. In 2024, he was elected president of the Paralympic Committee of India.
Jakub Vadlejch is a Czech track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He is a three-time Olympian for the Czech Republic, having competed in 2012, 2016 and 2020, winning a silver medal in 2020. He also has represented his country six times at the World Championships in Athletics, winning the bronze medal in 2022 and 2023 and silver medal in 2017, and six times a competitor at the European Athletics Championships, winning the silver medal in 2022 and the gold medal in 2024. He also won the 2016 IAAF Diamond League title.
Deepa Malik is an Indian athlete. She started her career at the age of 30. She is the first Indian woman to win a medal in Paralympic Games and won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in shot put. She also won gold in the F-53/54 Javelin event at the para athletic Grand Prix held in Dubai in 2018. She is currently the world number one in the F-53 category. She has won accolades for her participation in various adventure sports. She is associated with Himalayan Motorsports Association (H.M.A.) and Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (F.M.S.C.I.). She has undertaken an 8-day, 1,700-km drive in sub-zero temperatures which included a climb to 18,000 feet (5,500 m). It was – Raid De Himalaya. This journey covers many difficult paths including remote Himalayas, Leh, Shimla and Jammu.
Annu Rani Dharayan is an Indian javelin thrower from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. She was the first Indian to reach the finals of the women's javelin throw event in the World Athletics Championships, Doha, 2019. Annu had qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics through world rankings after missing out on the Olympic Qualification mark. Her career best effort is 63.24m which helped her win the gold in the National Interstate Athletic Championship, Patiala, 2021.In the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Annu Rani scripted history as she became the first Indian female javelin thrower to win a medal, a bronze. She is the first Indian Javelin thrower to win a Gold medal in Asian games 2023 at Hangzhou.
Abhishek Verma is an Indian archer. At the 2014 Asian Games at Incheon, South Korea, he won the gold medal in the men's compound archery team event along with Rajat Chauhan and Sandeep Kumar, and the silver medal in the men's individual compound event. On 15 August 2015, he won a gold medal in the compound men's individual section at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Wroclaw, Poland. On 25 October 2015, he won the silver medal in the compound men's individual section at the Archery World Cup Final in Mexico city.
Subedar Major Neeraj Chopra is an Indian track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. His biggest achievement is winning gold medal at the 2020 Olympics, becoming the first Asian athlete in javelin throw to do so at an Olympic event. Chopra can be called as one of the greatest in javelin throwing and one of the greatest Indian athletes because he has won gold medal in every major tournament. He is also the first Asian to win the javelin gold in the World Athletics Championships after his win in 2023.
Rinku Hooda is an Indian para javelin thrower who competes in the F46 category. He represented India at the 2016 Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Sundar Singh Gurjar is an Indian Paralympic javelin thrower, shot putter and discus thrower competing in F46 events. He won bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in men's javelin F46 event. He set a world record at the 16th Para Athletics National Championship in Panchkula holding three gold medals in three events. He is also recipient of Arjuna Award for Para-athletics.
Arshad Nadeem is a Pakistani javelin thrower. He is the reigning Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion. He is also the current silver medalist in the World Athletics Championship. He set an Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 metres (305.0 ft) at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Hamed Amiri is an Iranian Paralympic athlete. He won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw F54 event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. He also represented Iran at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and he won the silver medal in the men's shot put F55 event.
Sumit Antil is an Indian paralympian and javelin thrower. He won gold medals in men's javelin throw F64 category at the 2020 Summer Paralympics and the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships. He holds the current world record, having thrown 73.29 meters at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
Tek Chand is an Indian Paralympic shot putter and javelin thrower. He was born in the Rewari district of Haryana, and was disabled due to a road accident. He represented India in the 2020 Paralympic Games held in Tokyo in the men's shot-put F55 category. He was made the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony, replacing the quarantined Mariyappan Thangavelu. He finished last out of eight competitiors in the event, managing a best of 9.04 metres. He was originally listed for the men's F54 javelin, but later relisted. He has won the bronze medal in the 2018 Asian Para games.
Navdeep Singh is an Indian Paralympian and javelin thrower. He finished fourth in men's javelin throw F41 category at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris, his second Olympics.
