Abhishek Mahananda is an Indian politician from the Indian National Congress and is currently serving as National Coordinator in the Social Media & Digital Platforms of the AICC (All India Congress Committee) and is also the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee Social Media Chairman. [1] [2] [3]

Personal life

Abhishek Mahananda is son of Bijay & Ashima Mahananda. His mother Ashima was a senior woman politician of Odisha & a senior member of the All India Mahila Congress who believed in the ideology of social liberalism, secularism propagated by the Indian National Congress. She also served as a member in the State Commission for Women . [4] [5] [6] Abhishek Mahananda is the grandson of Late Achyutananda Mahananda, a former Cabinet Minister & five times MLA in the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Abhishek's maternal grand father Dr.Harekrushna Mallick was a Rajya Sabha MP and a gold medalist in medicine and a practicing doctor. Abhishek Mahananda completed his post graduation in 2006. [7] [8] He is also an accomplished snooker & billiards player having competed in national championships across India. [9] He is also a former Cricketer who played as a medium fast bowler and middle order batsman in the Junior State under-16 category. Abhishek was trained at Saheed Sporting Club under coach Kamal Ganguly where he played along with International Players like Debashish Mohanty and Pragyan Ojha.

He also is a businessman who has interests in the food & beverages sector & also in digital media advertising.

Political life

Mahananda had contested from Cuttack Sadar (Vidhan Sabha constituency) and lost the election. [10] In April 2019, he contested the election to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Cuttack Sadar (Vidhan Sabha constituency) on an Odisha Congress ticket and gained 6,229 of 155,799 votes cast. [11] [12] [13]

He was also the 14th Steel and mines and 1st Coal Union Minister of India from 1979 to 1980 and from 1977 to 1979 and a member of Lok Sabha from Kendrapara from 1977 to 1985. He was the father of Naveen Patnaik, who is the current CM of Odisha and currently the longest serving CM of Odisha.

Jagatsinghpur is a town and a municipality in Jagatsinghpur district in the Indian state of Odisha. It is also the headquarters of Jagatsinghpur district. It got the recognition as a new district on 1 April 1993 formerly it was a sub-division of cuttack district. Paradip Port, Oil refinery and fertilizer factory are located in Jagatsinghpur district. Devi, Alaka, Biluakhai, Kusumi, Hansua, Kuanria and Lunijhara rivers belong to this district.

Mohammed Afzal-ul Amin, popularly known as M.A. Amin, was an Indian statesman, politician and social worker from Cuttack, Odisha. He served as the general secretary of Utkal Pradesh Congress Committee during Biren Mitra's chief ministership. Afzal-ul was the Vice Chairman and later the Chairman of Cuttack Municipality and also the President of Odisha Mohammadan Association. He played a major role in preserving Urdu language in Cuttack by establishing several lower primary and upper primary Urdu schools in the city. He is also credited for organising various nationalist meetings and for mobilizing the common masses in Cuttack during the Quit India movement of 1942.

Subhash Chandra Singh is a social activist, people leader and policy maker from the State of Odisha, India. He is the first directly elected Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation, acting Treasurer of Biju Janta Dal and General Secretary of Biju Sramika Samukhya. Previously he has also been member of Rajya Sabha from Odisha and has also served as National spokesperson for BJD. He was elected for Rajya Sabha on 24 March 2020. Being one of the most trusted senior leaders in BJD, he holds the position of Party Treasurer of Biju Janta Dal since 2016.
